Mayor’a Comrt*
Then were only two cases brought up for trial be
fore His Honor, the Mayor, on Saturday. The first
was that of Robert Johnson (colored), who was charged
with improper eonduct in refusing to leave the Thee*
tre when ordered, and using abusive language to a
policeman. From the testimony, it was shown that
the negro had gone to the Theatre with an umbrella
for the white persons by whom he was employed, and
while there some other negroes had caused a disturb*
ance and then ran, and he being in the crowd was ar
rested os one of the party. The case was dismissed,
with costs of court! upon the prisoner.
Sam Snipe (colored), who has just served out a con
siderable period in the Chatham county jail, was ar
rested on the change of vagrancy. Sam said, in reply
to an inquiry by His Honor, the Mayor, that he came
to Savannah since he was let ont of jail, for the pur
pose of hunting for work, and when arrested by the
policeman he was standing in the porch of a bar-room
waiting for Something to do, but he did not intend to
steal anything. Sam was given the benefit of his
statement and sent to the Brrracks for one week.
Monahan’s.—The name itself is suggestive of oys
ters and ale. Fer m^ny years that has been tfip place

is likely to be sustained.
Mr. Monahan has been busily employed for the last
two weeks in re-painting and fitting up the old stands

Steamship Leo.
lu our issue of Saturday wo noticed tho ar-
jivil of the pteaiuship Leo from New York,
after an absence of several weeks undergoing repairs.
TIif Leo, during the few weeks she was laid up, under
cut a general refitting and painting, in addition to
haviujj other extensive improvements placed upon
her. The large aud commodious state-room formerly
„vui»ieil by Captain Dearborn, in the after part of the
but, has been added to the main saloon on deck, and
a fitted up for the especial use of ladieB. The lounges
art lar^e, comfortable, ami covered with green plush,
uail the backs are so constructed that they may be
turned into berths when .needed. The wood work is
of walnut, and the whole presents a neat and tasteful
appearance.
Anew-upper deck, fitted up with benches and sur-
wuuded by u handsome unsubstantial rope netting,
Lw been budf, with a stair-cade leading to it from the
main deck; passengers will thus be enabled to prome-
Did* the entire upper deck from the stern to the for
ward hatch.
Thu new state-room of Captain Dearborn has been
built immediately in the rear of and adjoining the pi*
'.ithiuse, and is fitted up in handsome style. In his
i’iarters the Captain may be said to bo at tho
rfi ntiuuall}', as it is but a step from his room into
tij-pilot house, through which it can be entered as
*cila> from the side doors on deck,
immediately in front of the pilot house has been
Constructed a large ice bouse, in which all the meats, 4

in addition to the improvements already mentioned,
■BivJtx'k has been built in her lower between decks,
»uh will greatly relieve the former heavy pressure
! die cargo in the lower hold of the vessel.
Ti:c Leo lias had three coats of paint placed upon
hr, besides having had new carpets laid in all the
^biua and ladies’ saloou. To any person who has not
heretofore been a close observer of the Leo, she would
-Ppuar a new vessel, although not very old at present.
With her new improvements, which-make, her now
°im "f the most comfortable passenger boats on the
Atlantic coast, and her former reputation for being one
of tin: fastest, the Leo, with gentlemanly and atten
tive officers, cannot but meet with the success she sc
justly merits as a steamship, equal to any in accom-
ffiodafjoijs and second to none in speed.
It is the intention of tho Agents of the Company to
put another boat on the route, the freight being two
wucij tor the Leo and Virgo. The steamship Veteran
ha- 3 been placed upon the line temporarily, and came
lu re List week with a full cargo. Purser Slocum, who
has i>etn fur a long time identified with this line, aud
wli'j is well known in this city, is tho obliging Purser
of the Veteran.
We arc again indebted to National Express Company
for late Augusta and Macon papers.
FEVER AND AGU^ EXTINGUISHED
Martyrs to Intermittent Buvor, a .word With you. The
responsibility for your suffering rest*? upon your
selves. Just as surely as j'ou shake to-day. or will
shake to-morrow, HOSTRTTER’S CELEBRATED
STOMACH BITTERS will extiuguish the disease un
der which you labor. Had you taken this genial
tonic as a preventive, you would have no need of it
ah a cure* for it renders the system impervious to al 1
miasmatic fevers. But since you neglected the pre
caution, rid yourselves without delay of the com
plaint by resorting to the only reliable remedy.—
Break the chills with HOSTETTER’3 BITTERS, and
they will return ho more. This is the experience of
thousands, and it will be yours. Quinine is a slow
means of relief j-it is nauseous to the last degree; it
is more dangerous than the malady Itself; in jnany
cases it utterly foils. How different is the effect of
the Bitters. Their curative action is rapid; they are
agreeable to the palate; they are not only entirely
harmless, but tend inevitably to strengthen the con
stitution and prolong life; they never have failed, and
it is confidently assumed that they never can fail in
any case 0T Fever and Ague, however inveterate in
its character. To be without Hostetter's Bitters in
any region infested with Intermittent or Remittent
Fever is simply to reject safety and court disease.
