thirty days.
Emma Cummins and Wm. Sheftall, negroes, were

This Court met yesterday morning, Judge Levi 8.

settled with the consent of the County Solicitor, Mr.

Notwithstanding the inclemency of tho weather
there was a large aud fashionable audience in atten
dauci* last night,, in compliment to Miss Charlotte
Thompson, the beneficiary aud favorite of our theat
rical public. Tuo play of Camille was well performed
throughout. We have no time to particularike, but it
lertimple justice to say wo have nover seen on our
iiage tho pin ts Camille and Armand more effective.
To-uight, the last of Alisa Thompson’s engagement,
will be repeated the popular Irish drama of "Arrah-Na
Pogue. ’ ’
By the correspondence in another column it .will be
eeeu that a complimentary benefit will be given to
that well deserving actor, Mr. Harry Langdon, on
Monday night, when the friends of the drama will
have au opportunity to pay a just tribute to a true ar

Driving Through Lanes.
As wo stated yesterday, there exists an ordinance
to prevent wagons driving through the lanes of the
city. Yesterday morning several negroes, who were
probably not familiar with the ordinance, were
raigned before His Honor, Mayor Anderson, charged
with that offence. His Honor stated for tho informa
tion of wagoners that complaint had been made that
the Street Commissioner could not keep the |anes
proper condition from tho fact that they were used
thoroughfares, and that hereafter he would visit with
heavy tine every person brought before him on that
charge.
Soveu negroes were charged with that offence, most
of whom claimed that they belonged to the country
and were ignorant of the ordinance. The majority
them were fined one dollar and costs of keep of
animals. Two of them, belonging to the city and
cognizant of the law, were fiued two dollars.
Uur City Railway.
The agreeable intelligence was received yesterday,
by telegraph, that the Savannah, 8kidaway and Soa-
board Railway bill had passed both branches of the
Legislature, and will doubtless be approved by the
Governor.
The Savannah public will be glad to learn that
enough subscriptions to this enterprise will be
ceived forthwith to warrant the prosecution of the
work immediately. We have been assured, also, that
it will be put under contract at once, and be pushed
forward vigorously and energetically.
From New York.—The steamship Leo, under com
mand of Captain Dearborn, arrived at her berth yes
terday about one o’clock, making the trip from wharf
to wharf in seventy hours. This ship is one of the
swiftest aud moat reliable coming into port, very
seldom failing to make her regular time. Purser
felocum has remembered the press as usual, and will
please accept onr thanks for New York papera in ad
vance of tbo mail.
City Ordinances.—The new ordinances recently
nwoed by Connell will »ppe«r In onr isme of Monday.
