Rev. R. H. Jones was in town lost

Rev. Mr. Bui kkead will preach in

Rev. Mr. Borden will preach at tho

The Waters" Organ InuT been for
many years associated with tho very
name of Sr.uduy Schools, for in every
section of tho country they are the
standard and favorites for this pur
pose. Many of them are also use ! in
large churches, where they rival in
smoothness and power a finished pipe
organ. Horace Wateis has done
well his part toward educating the
musical tasto of this generation, and
we think those who patronize his in
struments will bo equally pleased
with both tone und terms.—Pomeroy’*
Democrat.
A splendid line of prints, and the
prettiest lot of dress buttons, some
thing entirely new, at Wright’s.
Ou last Tuesday evening wo, with
about twenty other iuvitod gentlemen
guests, took ten nnd epont tho eve-
viug with Mr. W. H. Edmondson and
lady. Evory one proseut enjoyod
themselves to tho fullest extont, iu so
cial conversation and listening to tho
vory best of music, vocal and instru
mental, by tho Misses Waters. Mr.
Waters’ tnblo was supplied with tho
best to bo had, nnd everything served
iu tho best mannor. Tho only ono
who expressed himself uot entirely
ploosod with tho evening’s enjoyment
was our friend Jud Crabb. He said
that ho “was not feeling vory well, and
they sot so many good things to out
beforo him, that ho could’ut do justice
to nil of them.” Thoso nearest him at
tho table can testify that ho did his
duty pretty well—well enough to save
his crodit as an oatost. Tho most an
imated diccussiou of tlio evening,
among a few of tho older mombore of
tho party—Messrs Paco, l’hilpot,
Bock, Dr. Borders and others, was
Judge Sparks’s ago. Mr. Philpot as
serting that ho was fifty-five, while
others contended that ho was at lciibt
ten }oara younger. Tho Judge is a
little lender on the subject, but was
finally prevailed upon to tell his exact
age. He was twenty-four last July.
So that quostion is forever settled.
About tou o’clock tho party began to
disperse, expressing their obligations
and thanks to the host and hostess
for tho ovouiugs enjoyment, and that
they may be plouscd with their new
homo uud with tho people; and that
they may reccivo tho patronage they
so richly dosorve. If you want good
faro, well prepared, and nt low roles,
call on Air. Edmondson.
1 will furnish day board at $12 GO
per mouth; good faro uud tnouls
promptly at moal hours
W. II. Edmondson.
Next Tuesday is tho duy set opart
by our town authorities for tho votors
in tho incorporation to decido whether
they will say to tho world, we aro
in favor of intemperance, of
crime, of disorder, of poverty, hunger
and ragN, which the sale and use of
intoxicating drink leads to; or on the
other hand, whether wo prefer good
order, peace and quiet, the promotion
of morality, temperance and religion,
so that it may go abroad that the
citizens of Cedartown aro a tomporuto,
mural and industrious people. If wc
decido iu favor of temporunco, wo may
oxpeet that class of people who will
most assist in building up our lowm
both materially and morally, to come
into our midst und set! lo among us. Wo
hope every voter will seriously consid
er this matter, and vote conscientious
ly.
Shall wo have a spelling match ?
Tho suggestion has boou made, and
a great many favor it, but no one has
made any movemont towards organi
zation, each ono waiting for some
ono else to move iu tho matter. To
make a start, wo will arrogate to our
self tho authority to appoint J. S.
Noyes, Esq., and Col. Ivy F. Thomp
son a com m it too to organize, or take
some steps iu that, direction. Our
people need nomo innocent amuse
ment, and this not only innocent, but
instructive—will teach sumo who do
not already know, how to spell such
words us “nozzle,” “exonerate" and
“umat ur." Our reasons for appoint
ing tho cotnruitteo wo do, aro because
they aro tho portliest, finest looking
men in town, and are iu every way
competent; and if they will only make
an effort, wo aro confident they will
succeod.
All the old cases of smali pox at
Cave Spring havo recovered, uud no
now cusos.
We call attention to tho largo ad
vertisement of Philpot A Dodds. They
have a stock of goods in proportion
to their advertisement, and sell as low
as our charges for advertising—and
that’s dirt cboap. But don’t take our
word for it. You who want goods
chonp, call on them, und thoso who
havo any thing to advertise, and want
it seen and read by the most people,
and at low rates, call on us.
Parties wishing to breakfast early
would do well to cull on W. H. Ed
mondson.
Some little excitement was created
in our town Friday of last week, by
Coroner Thompson digging for the
roinains of a Swede who was suppos
ed to havo been murdered near tho
iron works last summer. No discov
eries were made. The Swede wus
was supposed to bo in possession of
several hundred dollars, und was
boarding with a Mr. Tarwutor, olso
an employee of the Iron Company, at
! the time of his sudden disappearance.
Suspicion of foul play at once rested up
on Tarwuter but nothing w as done un
til last week, when he was arrested and
search made, with the result above
stated. Tarwuter has been released.
When you are in Cedartown, and
want something good to eat, go to
W. H. Edmondson’s.
Don’t forget W. H. Edmondson is
keeping a first-class boarding house
ou corner of Prior and College streets.
Do our pooplo intend to do any
thing “extra” on tho first day of May ?
If they do, it is time sorno arrange
ments woro being made. If our Sun
day Schools expect to havo a colebra-
tiou, to-morrow is tho time to begin
to make preparations.
Probably no ono net of tho road
commissioners of this district would
bo moro acceptable to the people than
that of having the Carrollton rond just
this bide tho Gpport mill road, and
tho road at Win. Phillips’ residence,
worked and put ill good order. lii is
a slmmo upon tho community that
thoso roads are allowed to remain in
their presold condition. They uro al
most impassable, nnd not safe for any
kind of vehieklo to nltcmpt to pass
over them—amounting almost to a
blockade against tho ingrens of the
country pooplo. Wo believe, howovor*
that tho last named rond is within the
town limits, and comes uudor the ju
risdiction of tho town authorities.
Read what our correspondent Ins to
say on tho subject of roads.
Rev. Mr. Borden, after preaching
a plain, practical sermon, on last Sun
day afternoon, organized a church,
with fourteon members. Wo arc al
ways glad to noto any movement that
will improvo nnd havo a touduncy to
elevate tho moral, temporalo and ro-
ligious sentiments of our people, us
well as material iutorcsts, and wo wish
Mr. Borden and his little flock success
in their efforts.
From a circular received by Judge
Browor from Comptroller Gonoral
Goldsmith, wo learn that tho tiuio for
paying taxes on wild lands has boon
nxtouded to the lljth of May. Exe
cutions will positively issue, and tho
land bo sold for taxes in tho county
where located, by tho Sheriff, if not
paid by that time.
Within the Borders of our town we

other town of its size; notwithstand-
this, wo occasionally havo a pain
(Payne) and ache (Aka). Wo have
Day ami night (Knight), also, but
our Day (ho vas a nigger) is always
darker than night (Knight).
I will preach, by request, to-morrow
at 2 1-2 o’clock, p. in., from tho lift h
hhaptor of Revelations, on the Sovon
Seals, when they woro woro opened,
what they were, and by whom opened
The public uro invited to attend.

Ono of our correspondents suggests

Monday for New York. He will prob
ably bo gone three or four weeks,

tice of inediciuo and gono a-lishiug.
Wc saw him come iu tho oilier day
with a string of two vory fine fish, and
it was’nt a good day for the business,

Tho Cherokee Iron Company’s now
Btore house is about completed. It is

iently arranged store room in the

cine is put up right here in your midst,by
Dr It. K. THOMPSON. Your neighbors
have tried it, and it has never failed to do
what it promises. Every family should
keep it on hand, nnd thereby save many a
dollar. Often a long und expensive trip
for a physician might be dispensed with,
simply by applying Thompson's Liniment;
then keep it on hand—it will cost you but
little. No physioiuu can practice success
fully without a good Liniment—they know
its importance—then keep it on hand. You
cun apply it yourself und save money.
