Monday, Jan. 10,1870.
The House was called to order at
the hour of 12 o’clock by A. L. HAR
RIS (of Ohio), as Clerk, pro tern., by
virtue of Gov. Bullock's proclamation.

Said Hama, containing in his capa
cious self, the offices of Supervisor and
Master of Transportation of the State
Komi, ns well as Clerk and Chairman
of the House, and swelling therewith
almost to bursting, announced the pro
clamation of the Governor would be
reud. Whereupon, n negro, one T. P.
Baird, member from I’ioimiond coun
ty, proceeded to read that document..
This paper finished the farce proceed
ed ah.) the said Clerk, etc., directed
the said Baird to read the order of the
“Provisional Governor,” regulating the
organization of the House. Then by
the same parties to the drama the
order’’ of Gen. Meade, dated
June 23, 1868.
Again fell the hammer < f the Huge
Commedian, and he ordered the cal
ling cf the Roll of Membei s.
Mr. SCO TT, of Floyd, rose to ask
his Imp >rtu ney a question for infor
mation. It was, “will the members
take the o nth to support the Consti
tution of Georgia ?”
CALDWELL, of Troup, called Mr.
Scott to order, and Harris ruled that
Scott was out of order.
SCOTT then ask if he would be al
lowed to enter his protest then, or
await the organization of the Houso.
HARRIS said no protest would now

but Harris sai l the gentlemen must
come to order, as no motion would be
intertained by the Chair (?) until mem
bers were qualified.
Judge BLACK, U. 8. Commissioner,
appeared now upon the scene.
CAPT. SCOTT, of Floyd, arose to
ask if the Chair (?) would entertain
an objection to members coming for
ward to qualify, on the ground of their
removal from the State, acceptance of
other office, etc. The Chair, not be
ing posted by his ring-master, Biod
gelte, on that point, resorted to a si
lent tongue, and said he would not
answer the question.
P. M. SHELBLY then read the oath
to Radish, and he was qualified.
MR. GEORGE, of Baker, was call
ed, but did not appear.
PETER O’NEAL, (colored) of
Baldwin, was qualified.
RVHRIS ASSERTS HI3 DIGNITY.
C. C. Duncan, of Houston, suggest
ed the propriety of qualfying several
at a time. Harris tartly replied, “Tue
Chair will attend to the organization
of the House.”
A protest by Peter C’Ntal was of
fered against the qualification of Rad
ish, and it was read by Baird.
Bell, of Banks, upon his qualifica
tion, asksdfor a reading of toe con
struction of the Georgia bill by the
General Commanding.
Whereupon Baird commenced to
read those long documents, when Mr.
Bryant, of Richmond, objected to it.
Harm c;-Ued him to <»rdcr, and Bry
ant doctor and that Harris had no au
tboiity to be where he was.
HA RRIS ordered the Sergent-at
Avms to arrest Bryant. Great excite
ment. Bryant refused to be unvoted,
and declared that this was an attempt
to intimidate members.
Hinton and Blodgett’s sou were the
parties attempting to airest Bryant.
A negro near by drew a pistol on
Bryant.
Alter several excited harangues
among the Radicals. Price, of Lump
kin, appealed to flic Democrats to keep
quiet.
Order wnn restore 1 at length, Bry
ant quieted down, pale with rage, and
nursing wrath against the other fac
ti nos the party.
Oh- degenerate days! Oh. lost liber
ty ! When cornfield niggers and im
ported scalawags thus disgrace the
balls of Georgia legislation; where
Troup und Toombs and Stephens have
lent the powers of their genius to give
prestige to this great Commonwealth.
The proclamation was then read,
and the name of Thomas Pau'k was
called, and he was qualified.
O’NEAL then made another protect,
and amid much laughter withdrew
it.
TERRIBLE ROW AMONG THE RADICALS.
BRYANT then, despite the huge
Harris, arose, and addressing the
House, nominated J. 11. Caldwell as
chairman of the meet ing.
This motion was carried with im
mense ap] 4 au.se.
BR\ ANT then took Caldwell by
the arm* and started with him to the
Chair. Up rushed Hinton and Blod
gett’s sou, and Bryant stepped back.
Caldwell went on a space, but his knees
failed him, and the sight of Harris’
corpulency scared him off.
SCOTT, of Floyd, then nominated
J. E. Bryant, of Richmond, as Chair
man pro, tern. This was carried, and
Bryant, mounting a chair, (for Har
ris and his coadjutors kept him off the
Speaker’s stand.) and a motion to ad
journ to 10 a. m., to-morrow was made
and carried, and Bryant declared the
House adjourned. He then appointed
J. 11. Caldwell, Dunlap Scott, and
Gsgoo l , of Chatham to wait upon
Lien. Terry. Bryant then requested
the members not to go away until
Gen. Terry could be heard from.
H ARRIS, clinging to his tabida in
confragiim, then directed bis right
hand nigger, Baird, to proceed with
the roll.
The Democrats, vigilant and watch
ful, kept cool on their side of the
House,
Gen. Young was seen pussingaround
among the Democrats assisting them
with bin counsels
H. M. Turner, (colored), J. Fitzpat
rick, and J. E. J. Franks, of Bibb,
were then qualified under the Harris
regime.

Senator F. O. WELCH arrived this
morning from Alaska, un.l will be
sworn in to-morrow.
E. D. GRAHAM, Sena lor from the
3d Di-drict, is expected to arrive in a
day or so and qualify.

the late Treasurer, and that Mr. Har
ris has entered upon the discharge of

Blodgett, Superintendent of the State

construction of coal cars to meet ato

The manager of a country theatre,
peeping tl rough the curtains between
the acts, was surprised by a glimpse or
the empty benches. “Why, good gra
cious,” said he, turning to the prompt
er, “where is the audience?” “He
has just stepped out to get a mug of
beer,” was the brief reply.
Caktersville and Van Wert Rail
road. Operations were coi nnenced on
this important line of road yesterday,
4tb instant, at 2v. m., with a strong
force, by Messrs. Laman, Con ant &
Cos, Railway builders and capitalists of
New York, who take the building of
the road entire.
Atlanta and the State at large is in
terested in the vast mineral resources
which this line of road developes, and
being posted “all right,” we take pleas
ure in stating that the above Railway
