Tho following from tho Clarksville

A dog, belonging to Dr. BUliugsly, of

of the Doctor was bitten by the same dog,
though the dog had manifested no signs of

one.
This Is the second ease of recent date,

of life,
Mngulnr lllrths.
A lady of Richmond, Va., recently gnvc
birth to twins, thirteen days elapsing be
tween the births. Physicians speak of this
as one of the most remarkable cases of
tills age.
A negro woman liviug in Washington
county, Ky., on the 20tli of Inst month,
gnvc birth to n child, nnd on the 7th of
this month, just nine days after, gave birth
to another. The first wns a girl, and was
still-born, tho other wns a boy, nnd lived
only a short time. The mother is doing
well.
How to Ncvni'c Succes*.
The Louisville Courier-Journal says:
A couple of young men, who evidently
think tlmt editors, especially tho editor of
this paper, know everything, jointly re-
nnest.ua by letter to Sty down rules for
them thnt willl secure their success in life.
Well, young men. be Industrious, practice
economy, eschew liquor, say your prayers,
rend the Courier-Journal, and contribute
to a house nnd lot for Grant.
A Short Sermon.
Owe no mnn anything. Keep out of
debt. Unto it with perfect hatred. Ab
hor it with nn entire nnd absolute abhor
rence. Dig potatoes, break stone, peddle
tin ware, ilo anything tlmt is holiest nnd
useful, rather than run in debt. As you
value good digestion, n healthy appetite, a
placid temper, a smooth pillow, -plcnsnnt
dreams anil lmppy wakings, keep out of
debt. Debt is the' hardest of task masters,
the most cruel of all oppressors. It is n
millstone about the neck. It is an incubus
on the heart, it spreads a cloud over tho
firmament of man's being. It furrows tho
forehead with premature wriuklcsjit plucks
the eye of its light: it drags all nobleness
out of the port and bearing of mnn. It
takes tlic soul out of his laugh, and all Hie
stateliness and freedom from his walk.—
Como not under its dominion!

Tlio closing hours were not remarkable
for anything but an extraordinary scene of

of Missouri, attempted to scut the South

Finally, Gen. Paine, Chairman of tho Elec
