Sunday School >‘lo Nlo In Hurray,
SrntNa Place, Ga., Aug. 18,1870. ■
Mr. Editor: 1 wns present to-day at the
Sunday School Plo Nlo of Murray couuty,
and truly It was a success. There were
sorno nluo or tou sohools raprosented-dn
all about four hundred Sunday School
scholars were present. Sovoral of tho
schools had tholr banuers wlth apjiroprl-
a to mottoes. Among others, I noticed that
of Center Valloy, with tho motto, “Tho
Center Valloy Babbath Bohool Army,”
followed In tiro inarch j>y about oho hun
dred scholars, who had boon trained under
Its folds for sorno tlirco or, four years.—
Next camo the Spring Place banner, with
its motto, “Tho Nursery of tho Church,,
planted by Robert Ralkes In 1781,” follow
ed by fifty or sixty, a thong whom was a
number of tho scholars Of tho Baptist Sun
day School of that place. - Tho banner
from Mt. Zion wns followed In full forco.
Ono banner, wli030 motto was “God Loves
the Sabbath School,” had many followers.
But I cannot .ftirthcr particularize, as al
most every school had Its banner. Tho
procession mnrehed with commendable
qntetnnd regularity, manifesting that they
had enlisted in tho regular Sunday School
Army, and had learned ns “npt scholars; ”
Being seated under tho “shed,” wo wero
next regaled with some well selected and
admirably woll delivered pieces by a num
ber of little girls and boys, interspersed
with 'soma excellent vocal music, followed
by an. address from Mr. Vlnlng, and, ono
by Rev. H. II. Porter, both of which were
well delivered, and mado up of tho right
kind’of sentiment, such as would eultivnto
in tho minds of tho children a lovo of or
der, morality, cbnrlty and puro and unde-
filed religion. There was no baby talk
about ribbons, whito-aprortX, blito eyes
and pretty faces, such ns would.stimulnto
tho prido and vanity of tho children, In
stead of impressing upon their minds and
hearts tho great and more weighty princi
ples of religion, with Its present auil pros
pective possession and enjoyment.
But hero comes “Marching - Orders!
again, wheu all fell Into lino by schools,
and were exercised by our cxcollont Mar
shal and his assistants whilst tho repast
was being spread. Soon they were formed
around tho board and feasted themselves
most bouutifully, partakingof many things
“good to cat”—bread, cakes of overy con
ceivable land, 1mm, chickens, custards,
pies, preserves, melons, &c., Ac., of which
there was nn abundance and to spare, as
of tho fragraouts there were many “bas
kets” full taken up.
A few more brief ceremonies nnd tho
largo assemblage, numberingnbout tenor
twelve hundred persons, old nnd young,
traveling In almost every conceivable man
ner, dispersed to their homes, all delight
ed with what they had scon and enjoyed
fit tho Sunday School Pie Nie in Murray
county.
It is worthy of remark, that in tho whole
courscof tho exorcises, thoro wns not a loud
or hnrsh expression uttered. A spirit of
emulation seemed to prevail as to who
should best acquit themselves in their de
portment.
I trust these pic nlcs may become' a per
manent institution for good, to bo followed
up annually, not only in Murray, but in
all the region -rqund nbout.
To parents I would say, send your chil
dren regularly and continuously to Sun
day School—it will do them good.

Some tlmo during tho month of May, a

good horses, taking also various articles of

return, and indulged in severe threats
ngainst tho perpetrators of the robbery.—
Somo friend of tho bandits communicated
theso threats to them, and n few days Inter
they again appeared, took tho engineer by
surprise, tied him hand and foot, nnd then
proceeded to lash him with whips and
Hiongs until tho man fainted three times
from tho loss of blood and pain. They
then tied him on a chair before his dwell

tho liouso and violated his wife. Since
then tho engineer has bcon almost a nmnl-

A M leer ,villi a fitnrvlng Family,
Tho Albany Knickerbocker tells a sin-
f ular story as follows? A most remarka-
lo caso was developed yesterday. On
Clinton avenou lives a well-known vendor
of patent rights, His family consists of
a wife and threo children. Although it is
knownlHat this ihdividualls making mon
ey enough to keep his family comfortable,
yet they liavo suffered severely for the
necessaries of life. For some reason ho
saw fit to hoard up.liis money. On ono
occasion his wife was drlVoU to extremes,
when sho wns obliged to cause ids arrest.
Ho settled tho caso .by prpmising to do
better in tho future. For a few weeks ho
did do hotter, hut recently returned into
Ills old channel of neglect* Tlio much
abused and suffering Wife was about to in
stitute anothcr oompiflitat for his criminal,
neglect when sho struck a gold mine,
The money which her husband had
hoarded upend secreted caused groat lq6u-
blo to tho old mart’8 mind, nnd during
his slumbers ho talked considerably.—
Among other things referred to was his
money and its hifUng-pliujo, and how. riph
ho wnsgoiug to be. His wife took ndvan-
cago of tills, nnd next day- sought for tho
tlie hidden treasure. Sure enough, close
to tho sink, under .tlio floor, in nn.old to
bacco box, tho wife found $310 in ton aud
twenty dollar notes.' It wns not long be
fore the loss wns discovered, when tho
tattle's man whined like a maniac.—
Fearing lie sliquld go' crazy, the wlfo ifl-
formed liim that sho had tlio money. lie
demanded it, and threatened her with se

A Terrible Cnlninlly.
Wo find tho following strange story in

Wo lenrn by letter from a gontlemnn in
Ilelcbn that a curiously painful incident
occurred in that town on Friday hvoninj:
last, Fivo rathor clever, respectable aui,

Nothing; thoro wns pleasure enough nnd
a merry, parting. They appear, all of
them, to lmvc slept Bouudly during the

morning when they awoke up in their
several apartments not ono of .them could
heat a sound. Neither was acquainted
then with tho misfortune of tho other,
nnd wondered in his own mind wlmt on
■earth was tho matter; took somo conso
lation In tho thought that It was merely
a temporary ullllction brought on by caus
es for which ho could not fully account:—
But ns they met cneli other at their busi

ishment nnd even terror wns not to bo do-
scribed. Tbo clattering of wagons and

oven tlio firing of a pistol close up to their
