The tourist trave! through Switz

hundred millions of dollars vearly.
There is rFason why this matchlcss
:mountain;cenery of the Blue Ridge,
in which Tallulah is the unrivaled
queen, should not attract to the
mountains of Georgia larger travel
than annually pours the .yellow
ireasure into the lap of Switzerland.
More than a quarter of a century
ago Chief Justice Logan E. Bleckley
gaid that Tallulah Falls would today
be included in one of the greatest
natural pariks on the continent of
No:th Americe.
Wi . consummation of the vision

Tallulah by which it may be reach

from the remotest quarters of the
earth. And thus will Tallulah's pure

of Bllad e farm, a maguificent
place near Dawson, on whici was

to encourage his neighbors and
friends to plant wore wheat. Mr.
Mercer was the first man in Geor
gia to offer to pay cash prizes for
the largest yields of corn per acre,
Mr. Mercer is popular with all
who are acquainted with him, and
is one of the state’s very best
citizens. We have known of Mr,
Mercer for many years, and know
him to be u high-toned christian
gentleman, one who has the abili
tv and all the requisite qualifica
tions to fill the place to which he
aspires, He has served as mayor
of his thriving city more than
once, and in 1906 was elected to
the legislature from his county.
The people of his section believe
in him, and well they might.—

and aroused an interest as wide as
the continent of North America,
whicli how truly today we are one

traditions of Anglo-Saxon civiliza

The fight to save Tallulah from
the desecrating touch of commer
cialism has been the fight of the
men who followed Grant as well as
the men who loved Lee and who
gathered about me at the great re
union in Macon the other day to
clasp my hand and pledge me that
Georgia Railway and Power Co.
should not be permitted to perpe
trate robbery of the unborn on the
sacred of a state that bore Hardee
and Wheeler, and who bolds beneath
its sod the dust of Longstreet and
Gordon.
The survey recently completed by
the University of Georgia shows the
area of the tract of land in the
chasm opposite lot eleven, in the
Fifth District of Rabun county, to be
one hundred (100) acres. This one
hundred (100) acre tract has never
been surveyed and so could not be
granted or sold and is still the prop
erty of the people of Georgia. In
this tract is included the main falls
of Tallulah. There are similar tracts
of large acreage in the grand canyon
above and below this tract, and also
on the opposite side of the river
which still belongs to the state.
The survey discloses that the acre
age belonging to Georgia is larger
even than the Tallulah Falls Con
servation Association has contended,
and it means that the sovereignty
of the proudest commonwealth in
the southern sisterhood will forever
keep guard above the ramparts of
Tallulah. Heren D. LoNGSTREET, -

tion ‘Association. . .
