Cotton—The import of the week was 4053
hales. Total import since lit.Ian. 1822, 84,833
hales. F.xport from the 1st Jan <o 1st July,
1822—Sea Islands 1010 bales; Foreign 402;
Other descriptions 46,528—total export 47,940
hales. We continue our laat week’s quotations,
as there art some fsw choice parcels that will
command our highest rates, though it is proper
to remark that the rates at which the principal
talcs are effected, range for Uplands and Ala
bama at 12 a 14 cents, and of Louisiana at 15 a
16 cents. The business of the week was incon
iiderable, until towards the close, when about
1000 bales were sold for exportation Louisia
na 15 a 17 i Uplands 12a 16; Alabama Ui 15;
Tennessee 11a 14; Sea Island 25 a 28.
Rice remain* inactive ; the market well sup
plied ; very little doing. Quotations name as

CHARLESTON, July 18-Arrived, aloop Li
berty, Davis, Turks Inland, 9 day*. Two ves
sels belonging to Turks Island had lately been
stolen by the blacks, and 150 of them made
their escape to Port-au-Prince. The head of
the gang was s confidential servant of * gentle*
nan on tho island, who had been employed at
captain of a vessel trading occasionally between
Turks Island and Port-au-Prince. Measure*
were taking by the owners of the slave* to de
mand them from the authorities of Hayti.

instead of tire-wood, ami ia carried to the
mouth of the furnace from the pit by elevator*

The Rice Machine la also on a new principle
and found by experience to answer better than
any yet in use. The quickneaa and regularity
ofthe movement, producing it of a superior
brightness without breaking the grain.
The mill is situated on a fin# Ureek, called
Cat-Head, on a branch of the Altamaha Uivcr>
and only about half a mile from Darien.
Sea Vetkaela, whoae diaught of water enables
them to go to the whavf at Darien, can load at
the Mill, only a short distance off. With great
facility; as an enclined plane from the mill, will
enable them to receive the lumber into their
bow ports, almost without expence: and tho
mill, as now in operation, can furmiah 40 M. feet
of plank per day, which may be increased if
found necesaary; the power being amply suffl.
