On the26 of August Gen. Morale! pas
ted Curncoa with 13 sail (flag ship the
Mu>tion,nf 18 guns,) having on hoard
1100men, destined against Maracaibo 1 —
The next duy they landed at Los Tuques.
Ibu' they were obliged to make a precipi
'^tate retreat. They then steered to the
eastward. On the 10th inst. at 1 o’clock
V. M. part of the expedition waadisem
. barked at Brahunda, and a -pillage was
commenced. From the reception they
met with from the Aborigines of this roun
try, they thought proper to re embark and
try the atiength of Basiura, between To
Cacus and Maracaibo, which place they
tuok possession of.
Morales’ fleet is said to pursue a sys
tem olpiracy. A Dutch brig noil sclioo
tier, belonging to Curacoi.-were captured
by the Mariluu on the 10th August, and
robbed ot every moveable article, and the
latter nl 21000 in cash.
Toe Dutch armed brig Henrietta arriv
ed at Curucna on the 4ll> inst in 45 days
from Amsterdam, with orders from the
Dutch Court to the Governor ofCuracoa
to admit the Colombian flag.
The Colombian achr. ol war La Cen-
tella, Capt- Hnptner, sailed Irnm Curacoa
on the 11th on a cruize, having undergone
a thorough repair. The following gentle
men attached to her, were seen by a pas
aenger in the Mntteawan the day she soil
ed, and were all in good health :—
Messrs. Price, Menstlier, Bunn, Bunvell,
Unwell, Bartlett and Ilay.
FURTHER SELECTIONS
from London Papers received at the Office of
the GKonou*.
London, Aug. 16.
■ It is said that the late melancholy event
w»ill not imiko any change in Mr. Can*
Ding’s destination for India. It was sup
posed that the Maiquis ot Hastings, on liis
return, would be Ambassador to the
Court of Vienna. That arrangement per
haps will not be carried into effect, and a
place. may he made for his Lordship in the
Cabinet. ’ The Duke of Wellington is now
mentioned as likely to be the represents
five of England st Congress. His Grace
ia personally acquainted with the Sove
feigns who will attend'd, and is more con
arersant than any other person with the
transactions that have taken place- be
tween the’Allied Powers lor Ihe last seven
years. The Earl of llarruwby is also
mentioned.
' We have received the. Paris Papers ol
Tuesday. The Greeks have obtained
tome li-csli successes. Letters from Sa
Ionics, dated the 8th July, state, that an
expedition from S'. Caiherine, in Thessa
ly. communded by Capt. Diamanti, having
crossed the Gull ol Salonica, and landed
at Cassandra, suddenly attacked that ci
ty carried the place by surprise, and put
all (he Ottoman gariisnn to the sword.—
Diamanti having since made some demnn-
siJatinnB against Salonica, that town has
b.cu thrown into a state ol alarm, and Ihe
Governor, who had marched to assist
Chnuichid Pacha, whu is blockaded in
Larissa, has hastily returned. At Athens,
the Greeks arc said to have obtained pos
• 'saiun of very considerable magazines, in
consequence of the surrender of the cits
del.
The intelligence from France itself
I iossesscs very little interest. A letter
rom Poictiers states that General Berton
vvis constantly employed in writing, and
complained thaf he was not allowed to see
his children. “ Two gendarmes remain
day and night in hil room, one belonging
to the foot, and the other to the horse
