Savannah, Ga., Feb. 28.—The retail clerks in other Geor

clerks of Savannah. Fot two years there has been a sort of
haphazard fight going on to this end but recently the work be
came concerted. Now the women’s organizations, the minis

works for humane interests have jpined with the clerks in their
effort to get the stores to close at 6:30 o’clock in the afternoon
and at ten o’clock on Saturday night. Many of the larger stores
have conceded to their demands. This was brought about by
the building up of a public sentiment in favor of the plan.

Men Who Have Been Bitter Enemies
of the Democratic Organization
Suddenly Make up Their Minds to
Return Under the “White Pri

Dublin, Ga., Feb. 28.—The Democrats
of Laurens county are much iierturbod
over the announcement of Mr. John R.
Baggett for the Senate from the Six
teenth district, the rumored candidacy
of Mr. James L. Keen for Treasurer,
and of Mr. Milton S. Jones for repre
sentative.
It is claimed tliat none of these gen
tlemen have voted in a Democratic pri
mary since 1892. Twelve years ago Mr.
Keen was the Populist seneator from the

Mr. Baggett was the Populist represen

It is a certainty that Mr. Baggett
will run for the office of senator, but
it is not known definitely that the oth
er gentlemen will be candidates. There
three straight Democrats in the
for senator and it is freely pre
dicted that Mr. Baggett will receive a
plurality of the votes cast in the pri
mary. There are seven old line dem

and th.ee for representative.

Trains Were Delayed.
The Georgia Southern and Florida
train from Macon did not reach the
city until ten o’clocK this morning,
about five hours late. The trouble
Is said to have been with the con

o’clock, the hour at which it ought
to have arrived here.
How easy the solution of all these
public question would be If the sen
