It has rained almost incessantly in
this section since the 6th instant, and
the ground is now thoroughly wet. It
cleared off Tuesday. and now the sun
is shining, and marble players are
making up for lost time.
Mr. James N. Nunn, of Gainesville,
passed through our town, one day last
week, on his wav to Clayton, to build
a court house for the good people of
Rabun. Mr. Nunn is a tine workman,
and never slights his work.
Mrs. 11. F. Quillian is on a visit to
her mother; Mrs. B. Thrasher is
visiting relatives and friends; Mrs.
>. A. Oliver is on a visit to friends
in Atlanta, and Robert, Barton and
Samuel arc having a lively time.
Two of our correspondents have
been heard from. One of them sent
items f<»r publication, and the other
one says he lias been dead—dead in
love —for the past two months, and

The farmers have been too busy of
late tn get up any news, and nearly
every man here is a farmer.
A good deal of small grain has been
sown about here.
A good oat crop would be a benefi
cial supplement to last year's short
corn crop.
Lots of guano has been brought
here this season, and all sold out., anil
more wanted.
Your recent correspondent made a
mistake in supposing that he visited
♦ 'apt. Deadwyler’s shoe factory. The
only shoe factory here, at present. <
belongs to Messrs. Rylee At Brown,
but Messrs. Deadwyler, Atkins, Carr
At Co., intend starting a large shoe
factory at an early day.
Lumber is being delivered for the
building of the Baptist c-hmv-h.
Maysville has one small vacant
house now. At the beginniug of the
p’ear more houses were wanted than
could be supplied.
If we had a paper to tell the world i
of the many advantages possessed bv
Maysville and vicinity, the popula
tion would be rapidly increased.
Arrangements have been perfected
for a grand excursion of the merchants
of Georgia and South ("arollna over the
Atlanta and Charlotte Air Line Rail
way. One am) one-fourth cents per

The union meeting of the first dis
trict of the Gillsville Association will '
