Should any of out Southern patrons de

of tins character we would commend this
to their consideration.

Northern “ drummers,” so styled because
of their position, in our city, drumming ;up
customers and looking after tne interests of
their respective houses in this quarter. —-
Any one desiring to purchase goods tfeed

buy just as cheap here on the street.
The authorities are gjvmg trans

to get the necessary papers. A large
number left on yesterday, and we suppose
that many more will leave this morning.
Perfectly satisfied with what they thought
was freedom, they are to return to
their former homes.
Os for the North. — There were quite a
number of our citizens both ladies and gen
tlemen left on yesterday for the Northern
cities, and watering places. Also a num
ber of refugees who have been making
Macon their place of residence for some
time past left for home. Among them
were Mrs. Page and Mrs. Robinson, the
the former matron of the Ocmulgee, and
the latter matron of the Floyd House Hos
pitals. They have endeared themselves
by their kindness and untiring efforts to
many a weary-worn Confederate soldier.
A thousand blessings attend them wherever
they may go.
Mayor's Court. —There were quite a
number of cases before his Honor yester
day.
Pierce and Cassia, were up for fighting
and disorderly conduct. Pierce was fined
$5 and costs. Cassia was discharged.
George, for stealing, was ordered to
work on streets twenty days with ball and
chain.
Perry, for fighting, was fined $5 and
costs.
Sam and Prince, for stealing and. threat
ening to kill girl Lucy, were ordered to
work on the street with ball and chain, the
former 25 days, the latter 15 days.
Ben, for purchasing and selling in mar
ket, was ordered to pay $5 and costs.
Patrick, carrying a pistol and shooting a
negro, was ordered to work on the street

enterprise, is the great Pacific Railroad,
whose completion will unite the great cities
of the Atlantic with those 6f the Pacific
coast, and conduct over a vast extent of Mit*
ritory, rich in mineral and agricultural re
sources, the commence of all nations of the
earth. During a war unparalloicd by any
similar contest in the history of the world,
the American peeple'have laid the founda
tions of this great work, and under the
liberal pro visions of the bill gumting aid;
for that purpose, its early construction is
• insured. * Already forty miles* runniog,
from the mouth of the Kansas river, is* com
pleted, and the oars are running to the city
of Lawrence. The next div^ion ; of forty
miles' west from Lawrence, is under contract
and is graded. The rOad rupning
from St. Louis up the valley of the Missouri,
connects with thiß branch jqf the Pacific
Road, and will be completed by the Ist
of August, and would have been built last'
season had it not been for thO interference
of bushwhackers. This gives Lawrence
forty miles in the interior of Kansas, direct
railroad communication with the eastern
cities.
The central division iuns from Omaha
City, the capital of Nebraska Territory,
sixty miles of which, we understand, will
be graded by the Ist of August.* The
third division will nin from Sioux City,
lowa, on the Missouri river. These divis
ions centre at a point near Fort Kearney,
two hundred miles west of the Missouri
river in the valley of the Platte, Nebraska
Territory, and unite in one main trunk to
the Pacific coast. These latter divisions
secure an early complet ; on.of the Burling
ton and Missouri Road to Nebraska City,
and the Mississmpi ancf Missouri Road to
Omaha. Worx is also being prosecuted
on the Western end of the main- trunk in
California. Brigham Young takes a lively
interest in the Pacific Railroad, and has
promised large assistance in its construction
through Utah Territory. The greatest
hindrance hitherto, has been the want of
men, which the termination of'the war and
the large increase of foreign immigration
will, doubtless, afford m abundance. In
tbe construction of this truly national w ork,
all sections ol the country have a deep in
terest. Coumiercfallyj it jg of the first im
portance, it will bring us the wealth of the
rapidly developing mineral States of Idaho,
Colorado and Montana. Politically, ©verv
lover of the L T nipn, and all that
our people should one*and homo
genious, vVill hall its early completion, for
it will prove one of the strongest bonds to
unite thp extreme east and the farthest
west in com|nepcial.friendship and political
unity. — \Y. li. R" Gazette.

of Macou, Ga., for the s tie of COTTON, we are pre
pared to make liberal advances upnu Cotton, and will
take charge of the same and have it sold jo New York
ou account of the owners.
By this arrangement PLANTERS and others can
realize the highest New Yoik prices, for their Cotton,
and at the same time receive a sufficient advance on it
to avoid the necessity of selling at reduced prices here.
We propose to advauce liberally on all COTTON con
signed to us, to attend personally to the marking, ship
ping, insuring, Ac., ot the same, thereby relieving
owners of all trouble, Ac., for which we shall make but
a moderate charge, payable when the cotton is sold.
COTTON is now in great demand in New York at 50
CENTS per pound, with au upward teudeuev, and we
tbeietore think it unnecessary to urge the advqptage*
of this arrangement-upon those wishing to realize the
FULL VALUE of their cotton.
