Ribon Cane.—Mr. J. J. Wood,
of N bo, exhibits the first
specimen of the above sugar cane
grown in this county s > far this
year. Eight or ten joints have

more wou-d have matured. Mr.

Ogletree, the abductor of the
little nows boy, Charley Tihlen,
and who gave bailiff S immerliill
such a lively race from the court
house and made his escape, has
again been practicing his nefari
ous penchant lor stca ing boys
this time in the vicinity of Hiram.
He used the same dodge iu this
instance that he was oharged with
iu the case of the Tilden boy, viz;
procured tho aid of Mr. Davis’s
little boy to assist in driving ■
cow that he had bought about
two miles dowu the road, and af
ter travelling the given distance,
and when a suspicion began to
shadow the little fellows mind
that something was wrong, he
then, as in the first instance, inter
posed his power, and by force
would have carried him on, but it
stems the resistance of tho boy
was si ccossful in this last case,
aud the little fellow made his es
cape. The best application to
that fellows dirty hide would be
an application of tar and feathers.
No Court.
His Honor, Judge Branham
was on hand promptly at 2 o’clock
and the usual bevy of attorneys
last Monday afternoon. But his
honor only opened court to adjorn
immediately, on account of the
unavoidable absence of one or
two attorneys, and the still more
important event that is to come
off at the residence of his honor
in Rome this (Thursday) evening.
One of his lovley and accomplish
ed daugh'ers will be led to the
alter of Hymen to-night by a gen
tleman, we learn, from Atlanta,
there to take upon themselves
the vows that m-ke them of twain
one flesh. His honors taudR excus
ed for this called session of court,
and may the unfoldings of time
prove that he and his “glide" wife
have submitted the weal of their
loved one to the hands of him
who will in every way prov
worthy. The court is adjourned
to the 4th. Monday in October
pext, when perhaps after all 4
will suit the convenience of a mu-
cemetery of that nlace. Ev _

lars and cents, but a work of love
and Hn opportunity once more
offered, iu a sad way, to illustrate
a spirit of patriotism that slioulo
pervade every Southern home.
