TELLS ATLANTANS
How Those Straw Votes
Are Taken -- Dougherty
County Going for ClarK
Howell.
The Atlanta Constitution this morn
ing leads oil its “Gossip at the Capi
tol” column with the following, which
will be of local interest in Albany:
"Some side lights were thrown on s
certain kind of political polling by
Hon. E. R. Jones, of Dougherty county,
who was a visitor at the capitol yes
terday.
Colonel Jones is a former member
of the House of Representatives and a
leading citizen of Albany and Dough
erty county. In speaking of the politi
cal situation In his home territory, he
said yesterday:
“ ‘Dougherty can be counted in the
Howell column and indications are
that Lee county will go the same way.
“ Recently I got a friend to make a
poll of Washington street, in Albany,
finding that a big majority was for
Howell. 1 took the names of the Hoke
Smith men and went to (ach of them
personally and asked them how they
stood, knowing already they were for
Mr. Smith. In this way I soon had a
poll which read something like this:
Hoke Smith 20, everybody else 0.
“ ‘Well, this caused some little
amusement in the county. It served
to illustrate how many of the; polls are
taken which claim everything for' Mr.
Smith.’ ”

Retail Oil Wagon.
Albany is fast taking on all the ways
and (conveniences of a city. One of
the latest city conveniences to )>e of
fered to Albanians Is a retail oil
wagon which was started today by
Messrs. Jones & Thornton. This oil-
tank wagon will deliver kerosene oil
dally to the homes of the city, just as
ice and milk are delivered. The cost
of oil from the retail oil wagon will
be no more than has been charged by
stores. This will, no doubt, prove
quite an acceptable Innovation to those
who use oil.

With rain today apd the prospect of
rain tomorrow .the indications are not
altogether hopeful for bright weather
on Friday, when the congressional
delegation will be in Albany. But the
weather bureau predicts that it will
be colder in the western part of the
state tomorrow, which is a circum
stance to be regarded as encouraging,
at least.
