Y’all remember Tommie
Olds don’t you? Well, I talked
to Tommie via telephone last
week. He’s a special assistant in
the Community

For those of you who don’t
know Tommie, he is the
former Black Police Lieutenant
with the Augusta Police
Department, who set so many
“first Black” records for that
department.
First Black Sergeant, First
Black Vice-Squad Commander,
first Black Community
Relation Team member, and
first Black lieutenant with the
force.

Arthur Stewart, director of
the Neighborhood Youth
Corps here tells me that his
. program has been funded
($100,000) for a summer
program for youth in 1973.
Arthur says that 92 percent of
the funds will go directly to the
enrollers. That will be for kids,
240 to be exact, to work 35
hours a week.
Arthur praises Richmond
County Commissioner Don
Neal for his efforts in
expiditing the much needed
funds.

Black Women Uneasy About Feminism Movement
By Louise E. Wyche
National Black News Service
WASHINGTON-A lot of
black women who have
achieved more than black men
are considerably uneasy about
the sometimes militant
feminism ofthe 19705.
That’s the persistent theme
of the National Black Women’s

When it was a regrettable
misapplication of judgment
on the part of Richmond
County Commission Chairman
Norman Simowitz in reference
to his initial appointments to
that authority.
Last December 1972 Mr.
Simowitz had the audacity to
say Richmond County wasn’t
ready for a Black Chairman.
This too was a regrettable
mis-application of judgment
and racism on the part of Mr.
Simowitz.

The Nixon Administration
according to reports is
considering asking Congress to
raise gasoline taxes by as much
a $7 billion a year.
This we are told will not
make any more motor fuel
available. But it will help
relieve the energy crisis in that,
most Americans will not be
able to afford gasoline if this
consideration is approved. This
will also relieve pollution as
those who cannot afford to
purchase gasoline will either
walk, or ride bicycles.

this way:
“I’m just an average black
