New Boat Ramp Available
On The Kinchafoonee Creek
Construction has been com
pleted on a new concrete boat
ramp on the Kinchafoonee Creek
announces the Georgia Depart
ment of Natural Resources
(DNR), Wildlife Resources Divi
sion (WRD). The ramp is located
on the Department of
Transportation's (DOT) right-of-
way at the State Route 45 Bridge
over the Kinchafoonee Creek in
southern Webster County.
"I am pleased that the new
'Bottsford Public Boat Ramp' is
now completed. It will make
launching small boats at this lo
cation on the Kinchafoonee
Creek much safer and easier,"
said Russ Ober, WRD Regional
Supervisor for Fisheries Manage
ment. "While this creek is fairly
small, it does produce some good
fishing - even when the water is
low and anglers have to spend
time pulling their boats over
downed trees that partially block
the stream channel."
Anglers who visit this area of
the Kinchafoonee Creek can ex
pect to catch largemouth bass,
channel catfish, bluegill and red
breast sunfish. Ober said that
during a recent visit to the ramp
site he watched a fisherman haul
out a nice two to three pound bass
within a few minutes of starting
to fish beneath the bridge.
"I truly appreciate the coopera
tion that DOT Commissioner
Tom Coleman and his staff ex
tended to our Department in help
ing to make this new public ac
cess area a reality," said DNR
Commissioner Lonice Barrett.
"Commissioner Coleman's work
ers upgraded the access road into
the site and did the initial site
preparation, while our staff con-

By working together, our two de

This was a real team effort."
State Senator George Hooks of
Americus. along with State Rep
resentative Bob Hanner of
Parrott, pushed for the building
of this new boat ramp. Senator
Hooks said he was proud that
DNR and DOT were able to work
together to provide this new fa
cility for the sportsmen of south
west Georgia. Several years ago,
Senator Hooks was approached
by a group of area citizens that
were concerned that there was not
enough good public access to the
Kinchafoonee Creek. Through
Senator Hook's work with Rep
resentative Hanner, the Chairman
of the House Natural Resources
Committee, and employees from
DNR, local anglers now have
good access at this location and
also at the Henry Binns Ramp
completed last summer and lo
cated just south of the State Route
118 Bridge on the Kinchafoonee
in Terrell County on the Terrell
County - Lee County Line.
While these two ramps have
opened up the Kinchafoonee for
a lot of good public fishing, an
glers are reminded that the land
on both sides of the stream is pri
vately owned and the property
rights of the landowners must be
respected.

Blazers finished first in the
YMCA's Fall Recreational
Division League with a record
of 5 wins and 1 loss, then
captured first place in the End
of Season Tournament, Satur
day November 10 at the YMCA
Sports Park in Albany.
The Blazers won a hard
fought final match against the
Sherwood Christian Academy
Eagles on Saturday. The teams
played to a 0 to 0 tie after 50
minutes of regulation play. They
remained tied through two 5
minute sudden death periods.
The game then progressed to
the penalty kick phase. At this
point both teams took 5 penalty
kicks, each made one and the tie
remained. The Eagles took the
next shot which was blocked by
the Blazers goalie Lauren
Pressley, the Blazers then sent
Katie Pressley up for a shot, her
shot found the mark in the right
corner of the net to give the
Blazers the win.
With Lauren Pressley in goal,
sister Katie Pressley, Cydnee
Tyson, Colleen Finney, Toni
Goodwin, Nichole Remington
and Amber Griffin rounded out
the Blazers defense. While

This scribler notes that the
City of Atlanta has installed 3
huge electric water pumps in
the Chattahoochee River where
Peach Tree Creek comes in. If
those pumps were installed at
Blountstown they would dry up
the Appalachacola River
completely.
No farmer can get a permit to
pump a drop of water from the
Three Rivers, but Atlanta gits
all it wants. It is amazing how
little they think of So west Ga,
So east ALA & the folks along
the Appalachacola River &
bay. We all mite need to call
them another kind of ant. but
for now fire ant will do. They
are simply not folks.
Ducks season opened with a
Big Roll of Gunfire at the
appointed time, it rolled from
stem to stern of this lake. Lots
of young people were out
enjoying the sport of decoying
the duck. That is a sport that
the young people seldom
coached by Linda Goodman and
Daniel Costellanos.
Ramlins
forget, one boat with 2 people
had a limit of the Ring Necks, 4
tons of water turkeys were in the
Flint and from the mouth of Big
Jim's to grassy flats there was
one on every stump. 90% of
them need shooting.
We have low water on the
Lake but the fish continue to
bite. The top is in the mid 60's &
is basic clear most everywhere.
Wind is varying from So. East to
N East. I think of selling my
tackle & buying kites.
There has been lots of Bream
taken on crickets at a depth of up
to 12 ft, I took a few in 4 ft on 1/
32 oz. Jigs, brown in color. The
tackle shops are still selling
crickets going & coming.
The specks are doing fine for
most everyone who goes for
them. Some hitting so shallow
that sometimes you can see the
flash when they hit the bait,
while others are hitting at 22 ft
deep. We just took pictures of a
couple of young men from
Cairo. Ga, Steve Dollar &
Bradley Jones with a limit of big
ole Perch. They were taken on
minows. Many more were taken
that I didn't see.
The "sparks" flew from the
heavens Saturday nite & the
turkeys gobbled like springtime
Sunday morning. Flowers
blooming too early, why?
