business.
The howling and kicking, in con
sequence, are as freely used now, as
taffy has been heretofore.
The situation is about as follows:
J. R, Forrester, the president of the
Exchange, or Syndicate, or whatever
it may be called, has ordered all mel
ons for points beyond the Ohio river
to be sent to Evansville, via Atlanta
and Chattanooga.
This route gives the Central, the W.
and A., the N. C. & .St. L., all of the
business. The E. T. V. A' G , the
Queen A Crescent, the Chattanooga,
Rome A Columbus and the Alabama
Midland, and beyond the Ohio river
the Motion route, are cut off from all
participation in the pleasure and profit
of hauling the Kolb Gems. It is said
that the son of .Mr. Forrester, the
president of the Exchange, has a
place with the N. C, A St. I.., and
that this fact accounts for the order
concentrating all shipments beyond
the Ohio at Evansville.
It would seem to he the better pol
icy to give caeli of the roads a chance
at the business. Each one of them
has made great preparations to han
dle the melons, and it is fair to assume
that if the shipments are divided
among the various lines, the melons
can he delivered mine promptly than
if concentrated over one. It cannot
lie said that any one line has made
better preparations or worked to
give shippers better advantages, or
lower rates. There is no reason,
therefore, why one route should be
given a monopoly of the business.
