News was received yesterday morn
ing of the death ol Judge Chisholm,
vice-president of the Plant System,
and prominent in other railroad in
terests. He passed away at ^ o’clock
yesterday morning in New York,
where he has been in a critical condi

among ihe railroad men, especially,

Denouncing the Force Bill.
The National Alliance, now in ses

day:
Whereas, The Persident of the
United States, in liis annual message
to congress, recommends and urges the
immediate passage of the measure
known as the Lodge election bill;
and,
Whereas, Said bill involves a radi
cal revolution in the election machin

tional, and its passage will be fatal to
the autonomy of the state and the
cherished liberties of their citizens;

The Bad Democrats.
A Mr. Humphreys.,a whi te preacher
from Texas, is in Ocala, Fl.t., attend
ing the meeting of the National Al
liance. Mr. Humipbreys is president
of the National Colored Alliance.
When asked about his former politics,
the other day, he said :
“I had mighty little politics about
me, I used to be a democrat, hut the
democratic party got so bad 'hat I
quit voting. I had no politics, and
never will have, unless some i.Hird
party comes up.”
We presume the democratic part V
in Texas, and the country at large,
wiil be able to get along without the
co-operation of Mr. Humphreys.
Texas rolled up nearly 200,000 dem
ocratic majority in the last election
without^ Mr. Humphrey’s vote. But
then the democratic party is so bad
the saintly Mr. Humphreys can’t vote
for a democrat and so lie will wait for
a third party. Sir. Humphreys says
that he occasionally slings a republi
can ballot. Mr. Humphreys, you’re
scused.'' The democrats will not
need you in ’92.
As Christmas approaches one natur
ally begins to think of the innumera
ble articles to be purchased, and the
first thing that seems to puzzle them
is, where to get them? Why, at Jcr-
ger’s, of course, for two reasons: one is
—you can find anything there for any
kind of gift, appropriate for holiday,
anniversary, complimentary or souve
nir presents: the other is, ho lias ca
tered to suit all purses, and as his
stock is so large and varied, you will
find anything there, consequently it
will not be necessary to go elsewhere.
It would be impossible to enumerate
the different articles, for anything can
be had. Facts are indisputable and
demonstrate themselves. His goods will
he ready for inspection on December
3rd, and strangers as well as residents
are invited. Established 18')7.
