deneral fliles Endorses Dewey’s
Verdict.
Cincinnati, Dec. 16.—Sen. Nel
son A. Miles, commending the
United 8tates Army, arrived here
today. In speaking of the finding
of the Schley court of inquiry
Sen. Miles said:
“I am willing to taka the judg-
incut of Admiral Dewey in the
matter. He was a commander of
a fleet, and as such, has kuown the
anxieties aud responsibilities
whiobreston a man under thsse
circumstances. He was iuetrn
mental in the destruction of one
Spanish fleet, and knows and rea
lizes the feelings that encompass
an officer under such conditions.
“1 think Dewey baeeummed np
the matter in a clear and concise
manner, and I believe bis conclu
sions will be indorsed by the pa
triotic people of the United States,.
I have no sympathy with the
efforts which have ; been made to
destroy the honor of an officer un
der such circumstances.”

bedlam broke Ioobs It was the
Arst real touch of Christmas, and
the boys rent the air with varying
loudness and lengths according
