Woman’s Home
iMirsnioii Column
(SiiU.Kv In. J»«. r fun)
The nrgeut need of me women who
constitute that great working force of
practical Christianity, the Woman’s
Home Mis »n Society, is strong men to
stand by tlu ui and help them solve some
of the problems that confront them at
every turn.
Men of character, men that dare to no
right under the most trying circumstan
ces, men that stand approved of God
rather than man, men that can walk
through the temptations of every day
life and remain firm in thought, word
and deed. Men that will stoop down and
I lift up the lowest, vilest of sinneis to a
higher plain of living, men that will
stand firmly against the moral degrada
tion of their own town, it is only such
I men that God needs or can use. Men
of high character and conduct impress
even the winked and arouse in them a
desire to he liko-uiiudod. It is truthful
ly said of John tho Baptist, it was his
loyalty to truth, to virtue and to God
that made him tho last martyr of the
Old Testament seers, and the first mar
tyr of the Now Testament history.

It i? not often that a rich man, a
of largo business interests and money-
making ability, leaves tho ordinary pur
suits of life to throw his time, euergy
and motley into unselfish work for the
uplifting of humanity, hut such is the
spoetacle presented to the world in the
labors of the utillionniro merchant-evan
gelist, Charles N. Orittenton. When
out visiting the outcast with a night
missionary, he heard him say to the
girls, "God bless you; go, sin no more.”
Mr. Crittentou asked, "Go where, back
to the haunts of siu?” "No other doors
are opened to them.”
As a result of that query, fifty-five
rescue homes have beeu opened to
these girls, three of these in foreign
countries, one ouhe in Chinn. Japan and
France.
Besides there are sovoral hundred
Florence Orittenton Rescue circles work
ing in the interest of these homes. Why
should there not bo one in every town?
THE PAIN ANNEX.
The Pain College, Augusta, Ga. for
training colored girls in all industrial
linys and in the higher walks of life, for
God calls some of them to foreign fields,
is doing a great work.
Miss Ethel Young in charge writes:
"The outlook for this work which has
been started by your Church for my race
is bright. It will be a means of doing
great good in tho world. Oar girls are
very gmtoful for all that is being done
for them, and ere long Paine College
Annex will have some, bright lights shill
ing in the rural districts where the peo
ple need leaders to bring them out of ig
norance and, prejudice and suporstition
and lead them on to be pure, honest
Christian men and women.”
The graduating class this summer
wore blue gingham dresses not costing
more thau one dollar each, made t by the
girls themselves. In faturo no girl will
bo allowed to graduutc who does not
make her own dress of this simple ma
terial. It is neodiees to Ray, these dress
es were much admired.
