Wb have had placed in 4 quart jars, one gallon of corn, and
sealed by Judge S. A. Roddenbery, mayor of Thomasville. One v of
these jars is placed at Evans & Sou's Warehouse; one at Neel Bros.
Store; one at A. F. Churclnvell & Co’s; and one at the Thomasville
Shoe Co’s.
With every dollar Cash spent with any of the merchants signed
below, between September 1st, 1904 and Dec. 1st, you will be entitled
to one guess at the total number of grains in the four jars. With
every bale of cotton ginned at thg Farmers Gin Company you will also
have a guess, and another guess with every bale of cotton weighed at
Evans & Son’s Warehouse. The following gentlemen have consented
to act as judges in the contest: W. H. Godwin, E. P. Clay, J. S.
Ward, Jr., J. Q. Bryan, Geo. M. Dckle, Ad. Way, 1 Jr., T. J. Bran
don and T. W. Lewis.
The person guessing nearest to the number of
grains in the four iars will get $ 100.00 in Gold.
Next nearest will get - - 50.00 in Gold.
2 next nearest will get - - 25.00 each.
5 next nearest will get - - 10.00 each.
20 next nearest will get - 5.00 each.
40 next nearest will get - - 2.50 each.
50 next nearest will get - - 1.00 each.

Thomasville was the host Thursday night
to a larger number of the state’s noted
men than she has been for years.

Warner Hill and Joe Brown, Congress
man Griggs, Railroad Magnate Geo.
Dole Wadley and Judge Covington
were ail hero together.
The fieuators are too well known to
need introduction. Mr. Bacon, the
senior collator from Georgia, lias been
in-his pment exalted position for many
years. He is recognised in congress as
one of tho leaders of the Democratic
minority aud his counsel is eagerly
sought after by party leaders all over
the country as well as b7 his fellow
senators. Mr. Bacon’s home is in
Macon.
Senator A. S. Clay Is now almost com
pic ting his first term. # He is younger
than most members of his distinguished
bo ly, and his distinction is thereby all
tho greater. He lias done Georgia
valuable service/it Washington and he
is a welcome visitor at any place in this
great state. Tho senators are the guests
of Mayor Roddenbery at his homo on
Hangell street.

A railroad commissioner is one of tho
most powerful officers in the state, and
just at this time attention is being di
rected in such a way as to maho them

They have.almost supreme authority in
the making and justifying of passenger

Gturgia. The commission, which
is mmle up of J. Pope Brown,
Warner Hill and Joseph M.
Brown, came in last night at flvo thirty
on a special train over tho A. & B.
They were accompanied by Messrs Geo.
Dole Wad lor, vice president aud gener-

perintendent of the A. & B. The com
mission has been making a tour of the
A. & B. lino for the purpose of inspec
ting property and investigating de
mands for now depots that are being
made by sevoral cities along tho
lino of the A. & B. lion. J. Pope
Brown lives at Hawkinsvillo. Ho was
for a long tirno president of tho state
agricultural sociotv, and has been seri
ously mentioned for governor mote
tlmuonco. Hon. Waruor Hill came
into public iioto iu u way that would
uot down on account of tho brilliant
way in which ho conducted Mr. Ter
rell’s campaign for govoruor. Hon.
Jos. M. Brown, from Marietta, was tho
latest of the three to receive appoint
ment. Ho took the place but recently
vacated by G. Giinby Jordan. Mr.
Brown is a soil of the famous fighting
governor, Joe Brown.
Immediately upon arrival here the
three commissioners were driven to tho
homo of Mr. J. H. Merrill, attorney for
tho A. &. B. railroad and are being eu
tertained there.
Congressman Griggs.
Congressman Griggs is at home in
Thomasvillo. This is port of his stamp
ing ground, and ho knows every foot of
it, aud almost evory inch of it knows
him. Just at this time, when the es
tablishment of two new railroad mails
aud two more rural routes are fresh ou
