MUTUAL LIFE INSURANCE ASSOCIATION OF GEORGIA
The Mntnal Life Iniuraace Ateocia-
tion of Georgia, which wm organized in
thiacity in October 1901, has already
taken leading rank among the insurance
companlea of the atate.
Hon. J. L. Webb, one of the leading
lawyera of North Carolina and aoiicilor
of the twelfth judicial district of that
state, is president. He is alto an i.ffl :er
in a similar company in North Carolina
Mr John A. D irwin, a prominent
oitizen of Athene, la eecretary and tr.as-
nrer and ia in active oharge of the bna- |
ineaa of the home office which is located
in this oily. Mr. Darwin’s ability and
energy are baring a 1.1 ing effect in ad
vancing the interests of the association.
Prof. Julias Magath. formerly a profe«
sor in Krnory College, who has had con
siderable eiperienoe with lift in-mrance,
h u severed his connection with all other
on opanies and is now assistant manager
and superintendent of agencies, being in
charge of the Atlanta t fflce, 603 English
American bnildii g.
The life inanranoe question is no
longer whether a man should insnre,
but simply the best company in which
to insure.
Life insurance business has in onr day
attained vast proportions, and many
people who formerly gave bnt little heed
to the subject are now deeply interested.
Unfortunately with the march of lime
the life insnranoe business has beoome
very oomplioated and expensive, and
the average person either has not the
money to pay the annual premiums, or
has not the ability or time to stndy out
the plans of the average polioy offered
by an insnranoe agent.
Why Cannot a Number of People Band
Together In a Community ?
This is a natural question. Why can
not a number of people in a community
band together, and at the death of eaoh
member pay a certain sum to the bene
ficiary? The eoonomy of snoh a plan
would be very great; the money would
be kept in the community, and insu
rance would be redooed to a minimum.
This question which has oocurred to
many a man has been completely an
swered by the Mutual Life Insnranoe
Association of Georgia. This organiza
tion, chartered by the laws of the state
of Georgia, has been organizing Life
Insnranoe divisions in this state for the
last fifteen months, following out the
plant under suooeesful operation in the
state of Pennsylvania and several of the
southern states.
The Plan
is the simplest and moat natural. The
state is divided into a number of divis
ions, eaoh division being made up of one
or more oounties. These divisions are
eaoh offioered by the best men in the
oounties where the divisions are organ
ized, and the money with which to pay
the death claims is kept in trust by an
aooredited and bonded officer in eaoh of
the divisions, so that in the event of a
death the money is right at home with
whioh to pay the olaim, and each com -
inanity has the advantage in the Jirst
place of knowing exaotly the state of the
division in the way of membership, but
he also realizes that the small amount
paid out by him goes to pay the widow
and orphan of a neighbor or friend.
The plan originated in Philadelphia
■ wenty two years ago and has been op
rated in Pennsylvania, Virginia and
tfortb Carolina with success. The Ao-
•i ut Order of Foresters, established in
IS35. is alive with a membership of 168,
KX) and an average death rate of 12 1
ier l 000 members. The objections to
he mutual or fraternal order of insu
rance have long since been exploded and
-his class of insurance is now regarded
h uot only the oheapest but also as the
, ,f P st and most reliable. The only io-

stitutions in any country, independent
of the atate, that have attained the age
of one hundred years are fraternal or
mutual orders.
The Results
In fifteen months, without noise or
advertising, the Mutual Life Insurance
Association of Georgia has Issued more
than six thousand policies among the
beat people in the atate, and Is represen
ted in thirty-six counties, and applica
tions are coming in from all over the
state to organize more divisions.
