concerning t ie
attitude of the Administration to
ward the coming investigations. Mr.
Glover expresses himself much pleased
with the manner in which the Presi
dent met his views. He assured the
President that his object was not to
make party capital, but to purify the
Government.
The committee on Kxpenditnres
in the Treasury Department, of which
Mr. Glover is chairman, passed, later
in ihe day, the following resolution:
Jicsofrerf, That the President be

Treasury Department, and to issue
the orders neceseary for that pur

able It is a fact that men walk the
streets of Washington to-day whose
families and selves are in danger of
hunger and homelessness through the
persecution which they have suffered
for telling the truth, while many
others bear in tlieir minds the knowl
edge of wrong whereof theyTlrc in

those who have been brave, they
dare not tell. Believing that you are

before remedies, legislature or ad

the resolutions introduced by me and
passed by the House of Representa

the needful investigations, which
were provided for under the Presi
dency of Mr. Madison, but for many
years neglected, till of late begun.
I shall goon, believing also that you
are desirous to stop, and as far as
practicable redress, the outrages
whereby honest men and women are
prevented from telling the tru h
about misdeeds by persons connected
with the government. I transmit
herewith a resolution adopted bv the
committee on expenditures in the
