We have received an invitation
from the Augusta Dramatic Club to
be present at the rendition of Sheri
dan Knowles’ beautiful play, “ Thc-
Wife,” on the night of the 10th of
June. The troupe have secured the
aid of Miss Gertrude Johnson, of
Charleston, whose amateur acting has
been pronounced as superior to many
professionals. The Augusta Keening
Neir.\ in speaking of the performance
says:
“Altogether the performance,
promises well, and the people of Au
gusta will show their appreciation of
Augusta Amateurs by a crowded
hearing of “ The Wife.”
The costumes that the club have
received are very fine, iu fact, are
pronounced by those well acquainted
with the stage business, the finest
ever seen on the stage.
The young gentlemen composing
this organization of amateur dramatic
stars have spared no pains or expense
in fixing up for a grand affair, and
the appearance made by litem on the
evening of their appearance will
justify a large and enthusiastic audi
ence in attending.
The scene of the play is laid in
Mantua, and under the soft Italian
skies these actors will do full justice
to the play. A full cast lias been
made up front the very fins material
in the dub, and everybody is expect
ing a regular treat.
If the clnb would consent to ap*
