Tlie Knot of Blue ttnd Gray.
Upon my bo'om lies,
A knot of blue and gray ;
You ask me wliy. Tears fill my eye*,
As low to you I say :
I had two brothers once—
Warm hearted, brave and gay ;
Tiicy left my sidx—one wore the blue,
The other wore the gray.
One rode with Stonewall and his men,
And joined his fate to Lee;
The followed Sherman's march
Triumphant to the sea.
Both fought for what they deemed the right.
And died with sword iu haul;
One sleeps amid Virgin a s hills,
And one in Georgia’s sand.
The same sun shines upon their graves—•
My love unchanged must stay ;
And so upon my bosom lies
The knot of blue and gray.
The Fate of a Fighting Dog.
A man who owned b terrier dorg—
A bob tailed, onery cuss—
And that there purp got that therf man
In many an ugly' muss ;
For the man he was on his muscle,
, And the dorg was on his bite,
And to kick that derg-goned auimile
Was sure to raise a tight.
A woman owned a Thomas cat,
That fit at fifteen pound;
And other cats got up and slid
When that there cat was round.
The man and his dorg came along one day,
Where the woman she did dwell,
And the purp he growled ferociously,
Then went for the cat like .
He tried to chaw the neck of the cat,
But the cat he wouldn’t be chawed ;
So he lit on the back of that there dorg,
And bit! and clawed! and clawed !
Oh, the hair it flew ! and the purp he youled!
As the claws went into his hide,
And chunks of tlebh were peeled from his
back :
1 hen he tiummuxed, and kicked, and died !
The man he ripped, and cussed and swore,
As he gathered a big brickbat,
That he would be durued essentially
If he didn't kill that cat!
But the wo'.nau allowed she’d be blessed
if he did !
And snatched up an old shotgun,
Which she fired, and peppered his dia
phragm
With bird-shot number one,
They toted him home on a window blind,
And the doctor cured him up ;
But he never was kuown to fight again,
Or to own another purp.
Folks may turn up their snouts at this here
rhyme,
I don’t care a cuss tor that!
All I wanted to show' is, that fighting dorgs
May tackle the wrong Tom cat.

Wherever it is intro
