Notice i* hereby (riven t hat I have this

LihHT. a weekly newspaper published
in Bain bridge, Ga.. as the medium foi
the ptili.i-'Htiou of all legal advertise
ments emulating from the Sheriff’s office
during the year 1901. Jail. 10th. 1001.

enor is dead.
Don’t come to us with your tales
of poverty—we have tales of our
own.
The Dawson Newa never stated a
plainer truth than when it recently
declared: “The roads in a county
are a pretty fair criterion of its prod*
perity.” Give ns better roads.
An Exchange thinks that those
who are accustomed to argue for
matrimony on the ground that it
takes no more to keep two than to
keep one, have never possessed
tw ins.
%
It now appears that the condition
of the State treasury is not so had
after all as the governor has
nounoed that by borrowing the $2,00
• 01)0 authorized the teachers will re
ueive at least 85 per cent, of their
wages.
Some of the newspapers are try
ing to make it appear that the State
Treasurer has inj red his chances of !
re-election by the stand which he re
cently took in regard to the Public
Property Fund. Wt do not pre
sume that Mr. Park is losing any
sleep over the matter and in fact it
would be cowardly to attack an offi
cer while performing his duties as
mapped out by the Stale Constitu
tion. In the recent difference be
tween Treasurer Park and Gov. Can
dler, each of these gentleman were
no doubt prompted by their honest
judgement of the law in the case and
it would be very unfair to let the
stand taken by either of them affeet
their fnture candidacy for any office
to which they should aspire. Aside
from this, we should consider any
man unworthy the confidence and
vote of his fellowman who would
allow the threats and menaces of
those who differed from him to
swerve him from the path of his
sworn duty.

William C. Whitney's thorough
bred* have been sweeping every
t dug before them on the Englisl
turf. Johnny Heiff’s successful
mounts of late are gaining for him n
reputation enjoyed by few of the
riders of today.
Quitman is clamoring fora sewer
age system. May she get it, and a
heap of it, too, for no town—not
even Bain bridge—-can afford to go
without it. Good health is a matter
of the highest importance to the tua
tenal growth of uiiv town.
The Memphis Commercial-Appeal
(Deni.) says: “If the Navy Depart
ment does uot wt>h to mix up Santi
ago and Mantanzat, it might present
to Admiral Sampson an individual
medal with the head of the llantan-
xas mule in has relief, and the latin
inscription, ‘Sic transit gloria asiui.’’
President Jordan has issued a call
for the Annual meeting of the Geor
gia Cotton Grower’s Protective Asso
ciation to meet in Macon Ga. on July
12th. Much business of importance
besides the election of officers will
come before the meeting and it is
very neoccssary that each county be
represented.
It is generally bclieyed that the
next gubernatorial race will be the
warmest that has neon red in the
state for a long while. Flom duBig-
uon, Joe Terrell, Dupont Guerry,
Pope Brown and others now have
ears to the ground and it is probable
that more than one of these gentle
men will enter the race. Just how
the line up will come is uncertain,
and without committing ourselves,
we are content to watch the bobbing
of the carks for a season at least.
The survey of the Central road
between Cuthbert and Lumpkin
seems to l>e stirring up the officials
ot the Georgia, Florida and Ala
bama (formerly Georgia Pine) road.
Mayor Moye reaeived a letter from
President J. P. Williams stating
that he desired to commit with our
citizens in regard to railroad mat
ters, and would come to Cuthbert
on any specified day other than Sat
urday next. Mr. Moye has written
him to come next week, when it is
likely that Mr. Williams will show
his hand.—Cuthbert Leader.

Inr Dothan, Ala., on Monday
morning last, W. A. Rankin shot
and killed Dr. G. R. McNeill of that
place and subsequently turned the
weapon on himself, firing a shot
through his brain and killing him
self instantly. The trouble it seems
arose over the refusal of the board
of trustees of the Dothan high school
to re-eleet Rankin to a position in
the school. McNeill was principal
and recommended some one other
than Rankin for the position, pre
ferring charges against him. Raiikin
became incensed, and the above
result followed. The slayer was a
native of Florida and had been em
ployed in the school at Dothan for
the past niue mouths. The affair
was a horrible one and is deeply
regretted in Dothan.
During the hot summer monies
especial need is found tor the en
forcement of the law against cruelty
to animals. No man should bo al
lowed to punish a horse by exces
sive driving or in any other way and
when he does so the law should
promptly bring him to an account
ing. It is bad uhough to impose
upon one’s fellowman, it is infinitely
more outrageous when such imposi
tion is praulice'd upon a dumb ani
mal. Societies should be organized
everywhere for the prevention of
uruelty to animals, but in the ab
sence ot such an organ taatiou every
mau should feel uaMed upon to see
to the strict enforcement of the
statute as above mentioned.
A rising young politician ot Mich-* 1

“My Deav Miss: I hereby an

candidates in the field, and I hesitate

I have no objection to her acting as

of the caucus prove satisfactory, we
can hold the primaries and select
the date and place of convention. 1

“Devotedly yours.”
