Mr. C. H. Caldwell was exhibiting
the first of last week a photograph
of some very fine potatoes grown on
one of his many farms in the ooun-
ty. The specimens were the largest
we have seen in a long time, and ev
idences somewhat the possibilities of
this Decatur count ysoil of ours

Mr. Edgar Morgan has accepted
the local agency for the New York
Mutual Life Insurance Company
and will hereafter work the territo
ry surrounding Bainbndge. Mr.
Morgan has an ad in this paper to
which we call attention. He will
make Bainbridge headquarters, and
we bespeak for him a liberal share
of the bnsiness of the section.

Mrs. Hunnewell Griffin and Miss
Buna Patterson have returned
the city. It will be remembered
that Miss Patterson who is atten
ding Shorter College at Rome, has
recently been quite ill and Mrs
Griffin, her sister, has been at ner
bedside. Miss Patterson will not
return to college untill she shall
have fully regained her strength.

Mr. IV. M. Hight, proprietor of
the Leon Hotel in Tallahassee, spent
several days here this week. Mr.
Hight was for some months night

If the sanitary department took
the trouble to inspect they would
probably see the necessity for ac
tion on some of the city's alley-
ways, where puddles collect at ev
ery rain and remain until dried by
the sheer heat of the sun. We
refer especially to the alley behind
the Willis Drug Co’s., store.
Mr. John B. Crawford, one
Cairo’s leading oitizens and business
men, was in rttendanoe upon court
last week. He informs a represent
ative of the Search Light that his
prosperous town had already receiv
ed about 7000 barrels of syrup and
nearly 2000 bales of ootton up to
date, and expeots to" get before the
season closes something like 15,000
barrels of syrup
We understand that Bainbridge is
to be re-rated bv the South Eastern
Tariff Association at an early date
and we would suggest that our oiti
zens make every effort to have the
town rated iu accordance with our
improved fire lighting advantages.
Bainbridge should have a muoh low
er rate than she has in the past en
