The new firm of Haire & Wil
son are putting on a contest that
will interest every lover of music
in the country. They have just
started it, and the rules and con
ditions of the contest are fully
explained in the advertising
page.
The stock of goods carried by
the firm, would *do credit to a
city. They handle everything
for ladies and children, in the
ready-to-wear line, at the mcst
reasonable prices.
The most tasty shoppers need
have no cause to order from the
mail order houses, as the line of
goods found in this store are com
plete.
We predict that this piano con
test will be quite interesting to the
ladies, and with just a little ef
fort on the part ox the candidates
one of them will be the lucky one.

a strong power for good in the
city.
In this connection it might be
well to say that the Baracas prize
very highly the old files of the
Bainbridge Democrat, which
were presented to .hi m by Mr.
J. M. Floyd. They wish through
the columns of the Search Light
to invite all who wish to do so,
to come to the Baraca Club Room
on Broughton street, where free
access will be given to the files.
They ask however, that the ex
aminations be made at the Club
Room, and for none of the files
to be carried away.
Prof. G. B. Toole, who has
been attending the world-wide
convention of the Baracas at
Norfolk, will be at his post at
the head of the class Sunday.
President Mills asks that every
member attend. It is expected
that Mr. Toole will devote the
entire recitation hour in talking
on what he saw and heard at the
convention.

Anti-Fly Campaign Makes
Splendid Beginning.
Little F«;s Are Very Enthusiastic. Little
Girls Are Slew to Eater Race.
51,00Cflies were brought in for
the first count, and estimating
that one fly may produce in one
summer 195,312,500,000,000,000
descendants we figure, that 996,-
093,750,000,000,000,000 were de
stroyed by the first catch.
The girls are slow to enter the
contest, which is as much for them
as for the boys, and the Health
Committee would like to urge
them to make a beginning and
win the prizes offered.
The colored children have
failed to bring in any Hies thus
far. A committee of colored
teachers will be at the Federa
tion Building from 5 to 6 p. m..
pn Tuesdays, Thurdays, and Sat
urdays to count the flies for the
children during the contest.
The Carmen Peach
Mr. C. H. Caldwell had in bis
show window this week some
peaches grown on his farm a few
miles west of Bainbridge, that
showed up about as well as one
would wish to see. The peaches
are of the Carmen variety and it
is doubtful if any product iti the
state would make a better show
ing, They are large, perfectly
formed and have the color that
indicates the soil upon which
they grow to be well adapted to
peach culture.
Mr. Caldwell has 200 peach
tress on his place. They are of
different varieties and all appear
to be very thrifty’ There are
also 300 trees of the famous
paper shell pecans. These are
doing splendidjy and bid fair to
he among the best in this sec
tion.

Famous Desk in Bainbiidge.
Mr. Henry J. Bruton has re
ceived from New York a desk,
which if it could give a history of
all that has transoired around it.
would be the most famous desk
in the South.
The desk was bought by Mr.
Bruton from the defunct Carne
gie Trust Co., of New York, and
was the one used in the office of
that famous financial concern.
The desk is of steel throughout
and is a beautiful piece of office
furniture. A chair was also se
cured by Mr. Bruton from ihe
same office.
