At a mass meeting held in the court
hous Monday during 'the noon hour
an executive committee was elected
for the ensuing two years. Judge A.
II Ogletree was elected temporary
chairman of 'the meeting, and J. D.
Jones was chosen as secretary. On
account of the small attendance pres
ent it was voted to meet again Wed
nesday to elect a chairman for the en
suing two years. The following were
elected:

Man Held For Murder of Sheriff and
Son Freed at Preliminary
J. W. McDaniel, chief of Police at
Thomas'.on, was discharged Saturday
at the preliminary hearing, on the
charge of killing Sheriff C. L. Howell
and his son several days ago. It was
said that the grand jury would prob
ably investigate the case further.

GRANTED DIVORCE DECREE
Other Cae* Disposed of During Week
On Civil Division of Court
Mrs. Loudie Mae Gilbert was grant
ed a first verdict for divorce from T.
C. Gilbert in Butts superior court this
week. Cruel treatment was the
ground on which the divorce was
sought. Gilbert is well known here,
having formerly been a teacher and
preacher.
Shores-Muller Cos. was granted a
verdict in the suit against S. L. Lof
ton et. al.
The Taylor Iron Works & Supply
Go. was granted a verdict in the suit
against E. A. Finrher.
Walt Smith entered a plea of guil
ty to the charge of gaming and was
given a sentence of $45 or eight
months.

The senior class had a class meet
ing Tuesday. The following plans for
commencement were made:
Historiau—Herschel Harris.

Poet—Doyal Coker.
Lawyer—Gilbert Saunders.
They decided upon the debate on
April 5, at the school auditorium.
Subject “Resolved that the United
States should have a system of mili
tary training modeled after that of
Switzerland. ” Affirmative speakers
are John D. Heard, Fannie Tolleson,
Albert Saunder. The negative will
be Bernard Harper, Herschel Harris,
Doyal Coker.
