The iU'/.i'.n Kitiim made a short
visit to Adel hist Friday afternoon;
met a xmrdiaj greeting from ids
friend,! tlierc and a pressing invita
tion to visit them often. We found
the merchants all carrying smiling
laces notwithstanding the grinding
money depression that overshadow
our entire (pjwntry,
Parrish A .Hfeyens, llto polite liv
erymen, are doing a satisfactory Inw-
iness jn Ujei;' line; Bill IC. Roberts,
deaigr in geftnraj merchandise as the
Huextesatir to J. H. Hester, is milking
the people glad with real bargains;
Parrish A Peeples wear smiling faces
and if you’d stay around them long
you’d forget that “bard times” had
come; YVilkcs it Julian occupy the
old stand with a big stock, of goods
ami are doing mi apparently satisfac
tory business, while George Pndrick
is down to rock bottom prices in Ids
end of town.
Solicitor-General Peeples was
there and, as he was thirsty himself,
invited ns to go along with him and
ipiaff some of the sparkling soda wa
ter nmnufaetured at KennonV
J.ulher said it was not very good but
—wo would not have known it bad
lie not told us—It suited exactly. We
quaffed anil then hied us away be
yond the railroad depot to watch the
progress of nn interesting game of
Imse hall. No amount of persuasion
could induce our Solicitor-General to
assume the important position of
buck-stop. At supper time wo ac
cepted a great big invitation to take
tea with that big-hearted hosteler,Joe
I’arrish, at Ins Adel House. If Joe
feeds all his eiisl/niiel'n as lie did us
and mir two companions, lie’ll never
grow rich keeping hotel, lit per
day. Nearly all the young men of
Adel devote the latter hoars of the
afternoon to playing ball, even the
staid, dignillcd Mite.li Young is learn

well. Altogether «m- Visit was a
pleasant ou«ulful we aren’t going to

Guldens, which occurred on Thurs

gloian over our entire community.
She bad boon sinking for several
weeks, baffling all medical skill—the
fever had been slowly but surely
sapping her life away, and at 4
o’clock Thursday morning situ
breathed Iter last. Her gentle spirit
was wafted on the morning breoxe to
a brighter and better world, where
suffering anil sorrow are both un
known.
Her remains were interred at
Benvei'dani elmrcbyai'd on Friday
mottling. Surrounded hv a host
of Borrowing relatives and friends,
the largest ever seen at a burial
there, .'ill that was mortal of tho be
loved dead was tenderly consigned
to its lost resting place.
\Vti deeply sympathize with the
bereaved husband whose widowed
heart will never cease to mourn the.
loss of his door companion, and to
the lonely orphans wlto will never
again know, save iu memory a moth
er’s counsel, Iver sweet smiles and
her fond caresses, and especially to
the little ones who are too young to
realize their irreparable loss, who will
never known the wealth of a moth
er’s love, to these do our hearts go
out in sincere sympathy in their deep
affliction.
VVe mourn the loss of a true and
.noble hearted woman, a consecrated
Christian, a kind and gegerous neigh
bor, a devoted wife and an affection-
ato mother, In the infinite wisdom
of Him who doeth all things well,
Ho lias seen fit to remove her from

we feel mid know that out'loss is

People. Who .Never Kelp u Com

I n every community there are men
who cannot he prevailed upon to
take their part of the public burdens
and responsibilities upon themselves.
They can nearly always bo convinced
that certain work ought to tie done
and the “we" ought to do it, hut they
ate content to look on mid let others
do the work.
If everybody belonged to this, class
nothing would he done. There
would he no cities or towns or vil
lages even. There would he no rail
roads, school houses or churches,
But, fortunately, in most communi
ties tluiro are a few men who are
willing to work and push, and strug
gle, who gi\c lime mid labor to set
on foot public enterprises that turn
half dead country villages into thriv
ing, prosperous towns and cities.
These men are always at the head of
every scheme that i.-. for tho country's
good and while they work theic is n
good number of those who stand
around and shrug expressive shoul
ders, and make unpleasant remarks.
