It is said of Judge Hansell that
last fall, in going from Thom-
asville to Moultrie to hold court, ho
had to travel over freshly worked
roads quite all the way especially in
Colquitt, county. Impressed with the
discomforts of the journey ho took
occasion, in his charge to the grand
jury,to animadvert severely upon tho
custom of working the public roads
just before the semi-annual sessions
of the superior court, and his charge
has done much to cause a discontinu
ance of I hi? miserable practice in the
good county of ('o)quitl.
Tho Judge seems to he keeping up
his light against poor roads and un
timely load working, for in Ins charge
lo the grand jury of Kerrien county,
last week, In* told the jury that he
did not want, thorn to tell him, in their
general presentments, whether the
roads are in good or had condition}
hut, if tin* road ollieials had not
faithfully performed their duty, to
bring the defaulters before him in the
proper manner and he would sec to it
that they are punished for neglect of
duly, lienee our leaders will notice
that the general presenimenls pub-
lished last week won* silent as to the
condition of the public roads of Bet-
rion county.
There is a proper time to do every
thing, and everything should he done
at this proper time, il would seem
if our people would slop and think
for a moment their better judgment
would dictate to them that the prop
er lime to work (lie roads is in the

It was currently reported at Ih r-
