The editor of a noted Georgia | miles of Tifton, over 280 acres, which
weekly has posted up a sign in his j is the result of the efforts of about a
sanctum, which reads: “No ex-presi
dent need apply for a renewal of his
former job!’’
The farmer who produces plentiful
provision crops can afford to sell cot
ton at a lower price than he whose
corn crib and smoke house, are com
paratively empty.
The weekly press is industriously
.and vehemently urging the fanners
to plant “more hog and hominy.” It
is different in Texas, where they want
to “uproot Hogg to produce har
mony.”
Compared with the total number
of federal offices, Georgia is entitled
to over 2,000, and an investigation
discloses the fact that not more than
200 Georgians are now serving the
government in an official capacity.
Georgia deserves her full share.
During the war, the women of the
south made their meat mid bread at
Inline, while their husbands and sons
were off in the army. Now the
children of these same women say
that they cannot raise their own meat,
and do not raise tlieii own bread.
Tilings might he improved if the
women had a showing again.

others come in with from a half to
two and three acres, miming the
acreage set to peaches in that section
alone, between three and four hun
dred acres. Then comes the grapes,
pears, pecans and other varieties of
orchard stuck that go far towards
making this developing industry
cover thousands of acres of these
pme lands,
What is said of Tifton, in this con
nection, van also he said of Sylvester,
Poulan, Sumner, and Ty-Ty, in
Worth, and Cyclonetu, in Irwin
county.
Canning factories will naturally
follow the cultivation of orchards
and gardens, and the efforts and ex
periments already made is sufficient
to attract outside people and capital
all of which has a tendency to ad
vance tlie price of land evev day.
Therefore the editor of the Local
would exhort those who own no land
not to procrastinate another year, but
to seize at once tiie golden opportu
nity now Ik-fore you and procure a
lioinu while lands are in easy reach.

Better roads will increase the mar

the value of farming lands at a dis

Nowadays a farmur conies to town
rind gives a mortgage on a seven-
contra-pound cotton crop to Imy six
teen-ccnta-a-pound meat. Then, dur-
ing the summer months, lie spends
three days out of each week swap
ping yarns at the nearest cross-roads

roll around he is ready to “cuss out”
every political party in the country
for not protecting his interests. 'This
kind of thing is going to be stopped
one of these days.
.Miss Nettie Shinier writes us from
Chicago that to see the World’s Fair

are imposed. Such unmitigated and
unexampled robbery can he expected
throughout the season. Chicago re

Mamuge uml Divorce.
The commissioner of labor, the
Hon. Carroll D. Wright in his report
mi marriage and divorce, a work of
1,075 pages, says that from 1807 to
1880 Georgia had d,!)5!l divorces out
of a population of 1,542,180.
Though the report is a vast volume
of figures and at times dry state
ments yet it is not altogether so. The
commissioner, realizing that some
popular reading in Ins book was
essential, interpolated the causes for
many divorces and 1 given few sam
ples taken at random.
“Defendant cut off my bangs by
force.”
“My husband would never cut bis
toe-nails and I was scratched very
severely every night, especially as he
was very restless.”
“Defendant struck plaintiff a vio
lent blow with her bustle.”
“Defendant pulle 1 him mil of bed
by bis whiskers.”
“Plaintiff had two teeth extracted •
whereupon defendant assaulted her
violently.”
“Defendant accused plaintiff's sis
ter of stealing.”
“Plaintiff alleges that defendant
does not wash himself.”
“The defendant (husband) does
not come home until in o’clock at
night, and when he does return he
keeps plaintiff (wife) awake talking."
Tin;: divorce was granted to the
wife on tho ground of great “mental"
cruelty. There are many like cases
which furnish history of the married
lives of those whose union in time
has become discordant.
