The Queen Regent, whose ambition
has made this etale of terror possible,
is a weak woman, with the dieadvan*
tage of being a foreigner and a mem
ber of that royal house which has
already cost Spain so dearly. In this
emergency the future seems dark in
deed for her and the frail lad who
claims tbe divine right of rule. To
preserve his crown she has not hesi
tated to plnnge the nation into a war
for which there was no preparation,
