Washington, May 11 —lt is said
that if the report that the Spanish
fleet baa returned to Spain pre see to
b« correct an active movement against
Cuba may occur within 48 hours.
It it were decided to land troops at
Babis, Honda, Matabzas or any other
point, th. vessels at Key West, togeth
er with the ships on the blockading
station, would have no difficulty in
‘ . covering a lauding with the aid of the
heavy armored fighting ships.
The monitors,’with their heavy guns,
could stand close in and with impuni
ty proceed to demolish (he fortifica
tions, while the gunboats and lighter
vessels poured in their shots from eff
shore.
Naval officers believe the defences
at any point except Havana could he
' reduced by th« ships now at Key West

hour There is nn definite informa
tion as to when the troops at Tampa
will be embarked.
An effort is being rnide to catch
Sampson's squadron before it reaches
and attacks Porto Rico and dispatches
are going in every direction to head
him off.
This is the result of the change o<
plsnrof the Spanish government and
our government as well.
It is now considered undesirable to
attack Porto Riccruntil Cuba falls, and
an invasion will be made of the latter
even if Sampson can not be reached

MUSTERING TROOPS
Several Men Dropped Ont Yesterday
Before Taking the Oath.
Lieutenant Ruthero, Bth U. S. In
fantry, arrived on an early train yes
terday from Chickamauga Park, to
assist in the mustering in of troops at
the State Camp. This was continued
throughout the day although many
companies have not as yet taken the
last oath of duty.
The Fifth . Regiment Band now
gives two concerts each day, ons in
the morning and one in the evening
. Besides there are two guard mounts
daily and the band is furnishing ex
cellent music on all occasions.
Yesterday afternoon when Capt
Geo. W. Drummond of the Republi

were pronounced deserters and escor

of the camp
Two of them were among the num
ber who were arrested by our police
yesterday morning
Capt. Drummond feared a return of
these men with evil intentions and
at once detailed n squad to patrol the
company's street during the night.
The stables on the south of the
grounds have been converted into
comfortable quarters and are now oc
cupied by several companies.
A large per cent of the men now in
camp are recruits who know nothing
of military duty. are being
drilled hard and will soon be prepared

attempt to run the town they will be
mighty apt to run up against Chief

That was tie fate of the above-men

they came out of (he fracus—if indeed
they are out—with all evidences of
having gotten more than they figured

The party, which was composed of
about ten men, became so unruly that
Chief Ison called on Officers Phelps

. Deafness Cannot be Cured
by local applications as they cannot reach
the diseased portion of the ear. There is
only one way to cure deafhess, and that is
by constitutional remedies. Deafness is
caused by an inflamed condition of the
mucous lining of the Eustachian Tube.
When this tube is inflamed you have a
rumbling sound or imperfect hearing, and
when it is entirely closed, Deafness is the
result, and unless the inflamation can be
taken out and this tube restored to its
normal condition, hearing will be de
stroyed forever; nine cases out of ten are
caused by Catarrh, which is nothing but
an inflamed condition of the mucous sur
faces.
We will give One Hundred Dollars for
any case of Deafhess (caused by catarrh)
that cannot be cured by Hall’s Catarrh
