There io a spontaneous movement
on foot to have every Southern state
represented at the funeral of Mias
Winnie Davis, the "Daughter of the
Confederacy." It ia to be,,hoped that
it will take shape immediately, and
that when the oad riles occur the bier
fe' will he surrounded by those who held
up and sustained the hands of her
honored father through those terrible
years of the ’6o*s. A tribute to the
memory of Mias Davis would be a
tribute also to that of President Davis
•nd the cause he represented, both ol
which, as sbe has, have passed away
forever. It is probable that a delega
tion will go from Charleston. It ia to
be hoped that Savannah and other
Georgia citiea will be well represented.

It is reported at Atlanta on good
authority that Dr. I. S. Hopkins may
go to St. Louis as pastor of St. John's
Church in that city, one of the richest
and largest Methodist Churches in the
West. Btsbop Warren A. Candler is
said to have recommended Dr. Hop
kino' appointment. The bishops of
the Methodist Church will meet in St-
Louis on Wednesday ol next week.
It is believed that at that meeting the
name ol Dr. Hopkiqs will be presented
by Dr. Candler for the place, and that
he will be selected. The appointment
of pastors in Missouri comes under
the department of Dr. Candler this
year, bis territory extending through
several Western slates, one of them
being Missouri. His recommendation
to the bishops means an election

GENERAL PRACTICE.
An Ordinance.
An Ordinance to fix the term of office
the manner and time of election of City
Attorney for the city of Griffin. Be it or
dained by the mayor and council of the
city of Griffin, and it is hereby ordained
by authority of same. That from and af
ter the passage of this ordinance the City
Attorney shall hold his office for the term
of two years and until bis successor Is
elected and qualified, and shall be elected
by ballot by the mayor and council of
said city at the last meeting in November,
1898, and at the same meeting bi-anually
thereafter. Be it further ordained that all
ordinances and parts of ordinances in con
flict with this ordinance be, and the same
are hereby repealed.
