THE SENATORIAL FIGHT.
Marray ElHU.ll • Majority at M3
Vat«(.
, Yesterday w*» a field day with
the Murray men. The night be
fore, when they went to bed, it was
with a feeling that the election
would be close, aud that neither
candidate would be elected oy over
one hundred majority. About
eight o’clock Uncle Newt Hudson
brought in the vote ot Bumphcat
and Ellaville, in Schley, und the
tide changed in favor of Murray,
Ellaville giving him 265 majority,
Bumpbead counterbalancing it by
86 for Hudson.
The official returns begun to
come in from the precinct: in this
county, cutting down the reported
Hudson majority in several places.
By eleven o’clock the lower part of
Cotton Avenue was fairly wild
with Murray shouts, as a Schley
county man brought in the report
that Murray had a majority of
3Q4 in Schley, and when Pat.
Williams read a dispatch from
Montezuma announcitj£ an official
majority of 539 for Murray, with
one district to hear from, the ex
citement knew no boui^is.
As the day grew on the major!-1
ty seemed to pile up, and Irom a
possible one hundred majority in
the morning, it seemed that it
would reach five hundred before
oight. The noon train brought
down the official vote of Macon
county by precincts, with the ex
ception of Hick’s district, which
gave Murray a majority of 84 , hut
the total vote could not lie ascer
tained.
The vote by precincts of Schley
county could not be ascertained
yesterday, as the total vote of sev
eral districts could not be ascer
tained. Below we give the vote
by prccints of three counties, Sum
ter being complete, Macou lacking
one of being complete, and Schley
several:

Dawson, Oct. 2.—The election
of yesterday passed off quietly
throughout the county. “The col

amounts to nothing, as usual, ex

a little demoralization. If they
would leave politics alone, attend
to their work and let the intelli

About 3 o’clock yesterday after
noon the fire alarm was sounded,
and it wus soon ascertained that
Col. J. II. Ouetry’s kitchen and
residence were on fire. Every ef
fort was made to save them, but
everything being so extremely dry
and a brisk breeze blowing at tut
time, the entire buildings were de
stroyed. The piano and some of
the furniture wern saved, but in a
damaged condition. The entire
loss is estimated nt about $1,500,
but was insured on bouse and fur
