LC Lightning girls
win Rec Rocks tourney
The LC Lightning U14
girls won four straight
games over the weekend
in Cumming to claim the
championship
in their divi
sion at the UFA
Rec. Rocks
tournament.
Ava Bushby
scored on a
clutch, 30-yard
shot with just
over a minute
left to propel
LC to a win
over the UFA
Reign in round one. Ella
Bleu Leverett had two
saves in goal for LC in
the win.
In round two, the
locals topped the UFA
Ridgebacks 3-1. Kenzie
Smith had two goals for
LC while Bushby added
one. Makaiya Howard
had one assist for the
Lightning.
On Sunday morning,
Bushby had
both goals
in a 2-0 win
over the UFA
Sounders that
propelled LC
to the title
match. Wren
Lonberg had
an assist on
one of the
goals.
In the finale
Sunday afternoon, Lamar
topped the UFA Crew 2-0.
Bushby and Nya Brown
scored for LC. Leverett
was stellar in the net for
the Lightning, recording
five saves.
The Lightning finished
the season 15-1-1.

Gordon football team are conference champs
Gordon State College’s club football team won the National Club Football Association’s South Atlantic Conference Champi
onship game on Saturday, Nov. 13. The Highlanders beat the Columbus State University Cougars 32-20 in Columbus, GA.

Information Session hosted by Griffin RESA virtually via Zoom.
The GaTAPP program is designed to attract highly motivated
professionals outside the teaching profession who hold a Bachelors
degree or higher from a regionally accredited college/university
and are interested in pursuing a teaching career. Human Resources

Conference Championship
Gordon State Col
lege’s club football team
won the National Club
Football Association’s
South Atlantic Confer
ence Championship
game on Saturday, Nov.
13. The Highlanders
beat the Columbus State
University Cougars 32-20
in Columbus, GA. The
team finished
the season
with a 5-game
winning streak
that led to an
overall record
of 8-2 with a
conference
record of 3-1.
The Highland

victory by Head Coach
Kevin Adkins. The team
was ranked 4th in the na
tion overall in the NCFA
out of 20 teams based off
power ranking analysis
completed by the NCFA.

on our student-athletes
as they compete and
win on the field and
excel and succeed in
the classroom,” said Dr.
Matthew Robison, GSC
Dean of Students. “Un
der Head Coach Adkins’
leadership, GSC’s football
program has continued
to promote and nurture
good sportsmanship,
healthy athletic competi
tion, and strong academ
ic achievement.”
Adkins began his
coaching career at Dutch-
town High School as a
defensive back coach.
After one year, he was
promoted to Defensive
Coordinator for Elite Per
former Sports Academy
where his defense only
surrendered
7.6 points per
game during
his tenure.
Adkins left
and took on
the defensive
coordinator
position at
Point Universi
ty and led his
unit to a top 10 ranking.
In 2019, Adkins coached
at Christian Community
College.
“Our team has dis
played the Highlander
EDGE both on and off
the playing field, and
1 am very excited that
we have assisted the
athletes in succeeding
academically and win
ning the South Atlantic
Conference Title,” said
Kevin Adkins, GSC head
football coach.
Off-season training will
begin in early spring with
a continued focus on
success both on the field
and in the classroom.
Directors from Butts, Fayette, Henry, Lamar, Newton,
Griffin-Spalding and Thomaston-Upson School Systems will
attendance at this event to virtually provide information
prospective employment opportunities for the remainder
the 2021-2022 school year and for the 2022-2023 school year.
