A NEAR TRAGEDY.
Considerable Oxcltment wae caused
hors yesterday morning by a freight
train accident In the heart of the
city. An early morning frieght train
bound for Savannah In paealng ovor
the trestle above canal atruck the
switch, which had apparently been
damaged by an earlier train coming
from Savannah,
The englno and tender Kept the
main track tor a short, distance while
can tried to go on another track
to Drunewlck. Hence the catutrophe.
The englno was overturned, one car
loaded with tomntoe* end the cab :.u
loader were badly damaged. |
Tho engineer, named Robert Nev.
ello, and hie fireman Jumped and were
only slightly bruised. A great crowd
assombled and witnessed the power*
ful steam crane, finally reverse the
engine from Its sandy bed and put
II back bruised.and worsted In the
combat on to tho line again. The main
line wae obstructed tor awhile but the
roadmen with atrong force soon got
things In shape again. Had the over*
turn taken place four yards nearer
depot the results would have been
very serious as they barely missed
the high trestle.
Regular, steady and persistent ad
vertlslng Is what pays.
The oat crop Is looking fine In
this section and the truck patches are
beginning to hump.
The flying ahlpa and the flying men
