gar It is reported that there are
already a swarm of candidates out
for Juil^e Crawford’s place on the
supreme bench.
gar The inYesli^atinn' commit
tee id’ both Houses of the Legisla
ture tinds everythin in the Agricul
tural Department all wrony, and
t here 1 is likely to be music in the
air in a few days.
gar A sudden and vigorous en
forcement' of t Ik* law against pro
fanity, promises to make Baltimore
rich. It cost a man from -td to T'ln
to use cuss words in that city, with
from one to two weeks imprison
ment.
gar Judge .Martin J. Crawford
died in Columbus on the 2tkl inst.,
altera long and severe attack of
typhoid fever. He was always of
delicate frame and constitution,
and little prepared Bp resist the
wasting ravages of this terrible
disease. Judge Crawford has led
a long life of usefulness to his State,
and bis death will be deplored by
the people of the whole State.
We hope and believe that Gov-
ernor McDaniel has the firm
ness to face this unjust attack, and
he may rest assured that the lam
est yeomanry of the whole State
will stand by and support him.

I’Jili/oi's K'ci’tiini/ Xi trs:—Govern-
or McDaniel has disappointed some
of Ids warmest friends by bis acts
recently, and there is no longer any
doubt that an open rupture be
tween him an some of the promi
nent politicians is probable at tiny
time. It is claimed by sonic* that
the governor has been placed
completely at the mercy of a cer
tain set of men, who are now as
1 hey have really been for years
past entire masters and controllers
of the politics in Georgia. The ap
pointment of Mr. Palmer, an Inde
pendent, as his private Secretary,
ibi* position Col. Avery had occu
pied, and the nomination for oltiee
ofone or two other Independents
led immygood people to think that
1 lie* Democratic parly was to be re
organized, ns it were, and all divis
ions reconciled. It seems, however,
that the Senate has somewhat
clothed itself in partisan armor, and
said the erring brother need not
return—none but orthodox Demo
crats need apply. This is the sum
and substance of the action of that
distinguished body: and at the
same time would seem to imply
that one Independent Democrat is
better than another. Nearly ove-, Uoil(1 tVp( , ot . ( . llIirKl ,.

We copy the above significant
paragraph from the Atlanta corres
pondent of the Augusta A', p's, un
der date of the inst. To our
mind it evinces a restlessness on
the part of the Atlanta ring to
again obtain possession of the State,
government, and we have watched
this mameuvre with much solici
tude, believing that it portends
great evil to the Democratic party
of the State. These distinguished
Senators, more than one of whom

prosecuted (persecuted would he the
belter term) Georgia Democrats,
and by whose advice those same
Georgia Democrats were subjected
to the sweat-box—have on a sud
den become wonderous patriots
and great political virtuosos.
When Governor McDaniel was
nominated, it was accepted as a'
compromise between all factions j
of the party, and none rejoiced
more at tills declaration of peace j
than did those Democrats who felt j
called upon to oppose the arbitrary j
and dishonest ring which under a i
weak Stale Administration had!
