One of the largest and most se
lect stocks of cooking stoves, heat
ing stoves, grates, hardware, tin
ware, Ac., ever offered in Augusta is
now attracting public attention at
the old and well established house
of W. i. Delpli, 881 Broad street.
Mr. Relpli’s experience in this line
of business has extended over a num
ber of years past, and lie assures us
that notwithstanding the lookout
for hard times the coming winter he
Inis invested in a larger stock than
ever before. His immense rooms
run back clear through to Ellis

the width of a block in Augusta, it
is not difficult to imagine how much
goods can bounder one shelter. In
fact, lie lias such quantities of stoves
as to make liis warehouse resem
ble a manufactory. The sales of
one brand alone, “The Excelsior
Cook Stove,” now reaches over
forty thousand in this country.
This stove seems to he popular
favorato, although lie lias other
brands. His stock of heating stoves
is complete, and no one need go
anywhere else for either cooking or
heating stoves. His stock of tin
ware is also large, and lie can sup

Mr. Mitchell mentioned above, at
Chauncey, Dodge county, on the
night of the 8th. The negroes, Jim
Crummedy and Mose Bryant, were
employed by the turpentine firm of
Pughesly, Tarver and Go., near this
place, Jim Crummedy the negro
who did the shooting, while being
arrested attempted to draw his pis
tol, hut was promptly “floored” by a
blow from a pistol in tho hands of
Sheriff Bussey. Mose Bryant charg
ed with complicity, was arrested at
a different house, by Mr. II. R.
Daniels, sheriff of Emanuel county.
Sheriff Bussey and Mr. Mitchell
accompanied by the prisoners ar
rived at Midville on Thursday on
their way to Chauncey, via Macon.
During their stay at Midville they
wore surrounded, almost to suffoca
tion by a crowd of anxious question
ers. Mr. Clay, the well man, ex
pressed his opinion rather freely in
regard to a scar, which the prisoner,
Mose Bryant, bore on tho wrist of
his right arm; stating positively,
that it was the mark of a haml-cuff.
He was a little surprised to hear
the prisoner remark, “Mr. Clay,
your brother did that by accident,
while I was working for him in
Macon.” Mr. S. E. Evans, speaking
to the murderer, Jim Crummedy,
said: “Jim, if you didn’t kill him,
who did?” Jim muttered doggedly,
“Joe Evans!” The circumstances
ot tin' murder art' about as follows:
Mose Bryant and another negro,
were engaged in a quarrel at
Chauncey on the night of the 8th
inst. Mr. Mitchell stepped between
them and said, speaking to another
negro, “If you are a friend to this
man don’t let this man, Mose Bry
ant stab him.” Jim Crummedy be
ing present, stepped up to Mr.
Mitchell, and with the remark
“What have you got to do with it?
I’ll kill you!” shot him, tho ball
entering near the heart. The wound
ed man lingered several days, suf
taring intense pain before he ox
pired. Tho evidence is conclusive,
and there is no doubt hut what
justice will he mooted out to them,
and Innocent man’s blood avenged.
Jim Crumniedy lias shot three men
before this last, all colored, and
boasted that he shot thorn “To see
