L r ia raises the most peanuts and lias
fewer idiots of any other State in
the Union. Lot us raise peanuts.
To show that the campaign
is Upon us, a Georgia country editor
went out with his hammer, and
nailed down a lie last week. “At
no distant day in the future,” he
will have his hands full and will re
quire a large stock of nails.
It is said to he a great pity
that the Radical party is so bad off
for stuff to make a President. We
cannot appreciate the force of the
above assertion. They have frauds,
thieves and scalawags in abund
ance, and if this isn’t timber suited
to the wants of that “grand old par
ty,” tlnrn we are no judge of what
they want.
observed that cyclones occur more
frequently during the latter part of
thewipter and early spring; This
is because the cold air at the sur
face causes them to form near the
ground, as when the air is warm
and rare they occur high above the
earth. Thev would occur as fre
quently upon the change of the
trade winds from south to north,
only for the fact that the northern
hemisphere is heated by the direct
rays of the summer’s sun, which
raises them high above us when they
do occur, and the usual dryness of
the air prevents the generation of
a sufficient quantity of electricity.
The Georgia Radicals open
ed the campaign on last Saturday,
in Atlanta, by holding a pow-wow
of what they call their State Exec
utive Committee. We do not know
what they really did do, as their ac
tion does not seem to have been of
sufficient importance to excite the
attention of the Atlanta papers.—
We do know, however, that a ter
rible lot of scheming is in progress
to secure the opportunity of paying
their way to Chicago by the poor
nigger and untaimod white Radical.
All we have to say is that they had
better do their howling at home,
and keep their money in their pock
ets, as after the next Presidential
election they will all be gently but
forcibly requested to step down and
out, and will be heard of no more
forever.

Tu nil Wanting Employment.
We want, live, energetic and cap
able agents in every county in the
United States and Canada, to sell
a patent article of great merit, on
it# merit#. An article having a
large sale, paying over 100 per cent,
profit, having no competition, and
on which the agent is protected in
the exclusive sale by a deed given
for each and every county he may
secure from us. With all these
advantages to our agents, and the
fact that it is an article that can be
.sold to every house owner, it might
not be neccessary to make an “Ex
traordinary Offer" to secure good
agents at once, but we have con
cluded to make it to show, not only
our confidence in the merits of our
invention, but in its salability by
any agent that will handle it with
energy. Our agents now at work
are making from $150 to $(>00 a
month clear, and this fact makes iti
safe for us to make our offer to
who are out of employment. Any
agent that will give our business a
thirty days’ trial and fail to clear at
least $100 in this time, above all
expenses, can return all goods un
sold to us and we will refund the
money paid for them. Any agent
or general agent who would like
ten or more counties and work them
through sub-agents for ninety days,
and fail to clear at least $750 above
all expenses, can return all unsold
and get their money back. No
other employer of agents ever dared
to make such offers, nor would we
if we did not know that we have
agents now making more than
double the amount wo guaranteed,
and that but two sales a day would
givo a profit of over $125 a month,
and that one of our agents took
eighteen orders in one day. Our
large descriptive circulars explain
our offer fully, and those we wish
to send to every one out of employ
ment who will send us three one
cent stamps for postage. Send at
once and secure tiie agency in time
for the boom, and go to work on the
terms named in our extraordinary
offer. We would like to have the
address of all the agents, sewing
machine solicitors and carpenters
in the country, and ask any reader
of this paper who reads this offer,
to send us at once the name and ad
dress of all such they know. Ad
dress at once, as this advertisement
will not appear again, and you will
loose the best chance ever offered
to those out of employment to make
money.

eftr Of all the unmitigated,
unqualified piece of egregious tom
foolery which were ever tansacted,
Representave Tom Ochiltree’s Las
ker resolutions cap the climax, and
if Count Bismarck’s action in the
premises was not an insult to the
whole American people, we should
unhesitatingly pronounce it a well
merited rebuke. These resolutions
are a disgrace to the statesmanship
of the United States Congress, and
how a Democratic House could be
so unwary as to fall into Ochiltree’s
trap is an inexplicable mystery.—
Lasker was doubtless a clever “nat
uralized” citizen of Texas, but had
done nothing to merit such grave
action on the part of the United
States House of Representa
tives, besides being an insult to the
government whose allegiance Las
ker had thrown off. Well may
sensible Congressmen hesitate be
fore they take any ultra steps for
Bismarck’s refusal to present these
ridiculous resolutions to his govern
ment.

THE TIIKOItl OK CYCLONES.
The late cyclone seems to have
revived a dlsposilon on the part of
scientists to account for the occur
rence of these terrible tornadoes.—
AVe have heretofore read many of
these theories, from the pens
of learned men, but have never
seen one which was not encumber
ed by propositions opposed to the
natural laws of wind-currents, and
therefore inadmissible.
Our oicn theory is that these
grout storms find their origin in the
change of direction in the trade
winds, which blow six months from
south to north, and changing blow
six months in the opposite direction.
At first the change of the current
is scarcely perceptible, but as time
progresses the northern current
gathers strength, and presses hack
the southern current, which is con
tinually growing weaker. This ac
counts for tho whirl with which
those winds always travel. When
the atmosphere becomes surcharged
with a superabundance of electric
ity, (which phenomenon any tele
graphic operator can inform you
frequently occurs,) tho pressure of
the opposing currents upon each
other evolve a sufficient quantity
to produce a vacuum, and the cy
clone starts upon its course of de
struction, and must continue to
travel until the electricity is dissi
pated, which is seldom done before
it comes in contact with the humid
air of the ocean. Every one who
has witnessed the approach of one
these storms, say that it resembled
a great furnace or hollow cylinder
filled with seething flames, which
proves tho presence- of a great
quantity of electricity.
The course of tho cyclone is nat
urally southerly, and sueli other
directions as it may take are caused
by obstructions, such as high hills
or even great forests, which it
meets in its path. The reason for
this course is from tho fact that the
colti atmosphere to the north pre
sents a solid, impregnable wall,
while tho rarified air to tho south
presents a weaker barrier, much ea
sier broken through.
The question is often asked:
“Why are cyclones more frequent
now than formerly?” To this ques
tion wo reply they are not. They
sweep the surfaco now because the
great forests, which served to throw
them high up In tho air, have been
cut away, and there is nothing left
to obstruct its course. It will be
