People who sent in communications

was because the election was called off.
We are not to have any bond election

to discuss the matter.
\\ e went out in the northern end of
the county the other day and we have
never seen as much improvement in a
section of country as we found out
there, and all this improvement has I
been made in the last few months. The !

Corn Contests Getting Popular.
Several business houses thioughou
the state are taking interest in the
corn contests, some of them are offer
ing valuable prizes. The Vidalia Hard
ware Company is one among the num
ber and we understand that one or two
firms in Lyons are going to supplement
the offer. We are glad to see the busi
ness men taking interest in the raising
of food stuff and we hope the farmers
will take up the proposition.
Substantial prizes are being offered
for the greatest yield of corn on one
acre of land and the counties mention
ed so far are Toombs, Emanuel and
Montgomery, fn some parts of the
state the prizes are only offered to boys
but the prizes offered in Toombs county
are for farmers generally.
We have the land in the county of
Toombs that will pioduce corn equal
to any land in the country and we see
no reason why a record should not he
made by our farmers. We can’t give
the prizes that are to be offered in
Lyons yet but will do so in our next
issue. The Vidalia Hardware Com
pany, however, is offering as first prize,
SSO in cash ; as second prize, a disc
plow valued at $35; and as third prize,
a line range. The prizes offered in
Lyons will be equally as good and the
prises will make it worth while for the
farmer to show what can be done on
Toombs county soil. Get busy, friends,
and see what can be done
