THE ASYLUM AIN
Han From Richmond County Who
Created Much Talk About Sani
tarium Brought Back in
Straight Jacket
The man who caused most of the ex
pense and talk of sensational character
throughout the state concerning the
sanitarium during the past year was
brought back to the institution last
Thursday. Concerning it reports from
Augusta say:
R. E. Dunnington was Thursday car
ried back to Milledgeville to the asylum
for the insane, but before he was car
ried from the Richmond county jail he
caused one of the most dramatic scenes
ever enacted in the jail. He fought as
never an insane man had foughc the
officers, andit took the combined etforts
of a half dozen people to put him in a
straight jacket and kicking straps.
Two officers accompanied him to Mil
ledgeville.
Dunnington was not aware of the
change that had been made in his case
until yesterday about noon time, and
then he became very violent and tore
the frames from the window in his cell.
He took the little pieces of wood, which
where mere splinters, and held them in
his hand to fight the officers with when
they attempted to take him awav from
the building.
Jailor Thomas Plunket, who is a very
courageous man. planned the whole af-

-JEANS & ROBINSON.
After suffering greatly from the in
jury received from being thrown under
a derailed ear on the Dummy line just
over Fishing creek last week, Mr.
Heard Oliver succumbed to pain and
died in Augusta last Friday. In an ef
fort to save Mr. Oliver the attending
physicians deemed amputation neces
sary, but he could not stand the strain
and pussed away shortly after it was
completed.
The death of Mr. Oliver is generally
regretted here and especially so in
view of the fact that he leaves a wife
and little child. His remains were tak
en to Greene county for burial, that
being his old home.
morrow. City council laid a heavy hand
oa the establishments of this kind at
the last meeting of the old board Wed
nesday afternoon, declaring that they
were undesirable.
Merchants who try to monopolize the
space in front of their stores will also
get a call down, for under the laws of
the city they cannot use more than four
feet of the sidewalk for display pur
poses. T his will make quite a change

Re Double Taxed Now
HI 1! COUNCIL
The state of Georgia will exact a tax
of a dollar on all dogs during the com
ing year, whether they are in country
or city. These is no doubt that many a
worthless cur will meet its fate as the
result of the law, but it is calculated
that great good will eventually come
from the movement. Dogs in Milledge
ville will have to answer to stats wnd
city tax and consequently they will be
double taxed, so to speak.

An effort was made to increase the
