Tern Cain'i Experience With a Calf.
Mr.D. T. Cain, the popular clerk
of the superior court, has run a
good many successful political
races, but he was engaged in a race
the other day that for the time be
ing excelled any political contest
he ever entered. He walked out
of bis house soon in the morning
and saw his calf out in the itreet
and untertook to drive it back in
to the lot. The yearling was not
to be taken in so easily, however,
and pitched off down the street at
break-neck speed, Mr. Cain in hot
pursuit. After heading the calf,
the office holder threw some stones
and epithets at the wild animal,
only to have another chase. Fi
nally he rounded him up at the
lot after getting out of breath and
being wet up to the knees with
dew, when Mrs. Cain stepped out
on the porch and enquired:
“Whose calf is that you are run
ning ?” “Mine!” he thundered
back. His chagrin can better be
imagined than described when his
better half said, “No it isn’t.
Your calf is in the lot, where it
has been all the while.”
USED BY BRITISH SOLDIERS
IN AFRICA.
Capt. C. G. Ennison is well
known all over Africa as com
mander of the forces that captured
the famous rebel Galishe. Under
date of Nov. 4, 1897, from
Vryburg, Bechnanalaud,he writes:
“Before starting on the
last campaign I bought a quantity
of Chamberlain’s Colic Cholera
and Diarrhoea Remedy, which I
used myself when troubled with
bowel complaint, and had given to
my men, and in every case it pro
ved most beneficial.” —For sale by

SCROFULA THE CAUSE.
Eczema, catarrh, hip disease,
white swelling, and even consump
tion have their origin in scrofulous
conditions. With the slightest
taint of scrofula in the blood, there
is no safety. The remedy for this
disease in all its forms is Hood’s
Sarsaparilla, which goes to the
root of the trouble and expels all
impurities and disease germs from
the blood.
The best family cathartic is
Hood’s Pills.

STORY OF A SLAVE.
To be bound head and foot for
years by the chains of disease is
the worst form of slavery. George
D. Williams, of Manchester, Mich.,
tells how such a slave was made
free. He says: “My wife has
been so helpless for five years that
she could not turn over in bed
alone. After using two bottles of
Electric Bitters, she is wonderful
ly improved, and able to do her
own work.” This supreme reme
dy for female diseases quickly
cures nervousness, sleeplessness,
melancholy, headache, backache,
fainting and dizzy spells. This
miracle working medicine is a
godsend to weak, sickly, run
down people. Every bottle guar
anteed. Only 50 cents. Sold by

Many people worry because they
believe they have heart disease.
The chances are their hearts are all
right, but their stomachs are un

which makes the stomach press
against the heart. It will cure
every form of indigestion.—Bag

Death of Little Codell Garner.
It is with sincere regret that we
chronicle the death of little Codell
Garner, which occurred in Atlanta on
the 14th inst. Little Codell was thir
teen months old, and the baby child of
Mr, and Mrs. George Garner. It was
a very sad death, as little Codell was
such a loving child, and was perfectly
devoted to her parents —so affectionate
that everyone loved her. She was
buried at Camp Creek cemetery in the
presence of a large crowd of sorrowing
friends and relatives, funeral conduct
ed by Rev. James Jordan.
We loved her, yes, we loved her,
But angels loved her more,
And they have sweetly conveyed her
To yonder’s shining shore.
The golden gates were opened,
A gentle voice said “come,”
And with her farewell lingering
She calmly entered home.

Timely information given Mrs.
George Long, of New Straitsville,

Death of Miss Lora Rabern.
Death again has robbed the world of
one of its fairest and most lovable
creatures. After a long spell of that
dreaded disease, consumption, Miss Lo
ra Rabern breathed her last on Thurs
day evening, November 15th, at 9 o’-
clock. She was a member of the Meth
•
odist church, and passed to her heaven
ly home with full assurance of the
Christian’s faith and hope. Nothing
was spared to add to her comfort and
restoration; but God wanted another
angel to join the happy throng. While
a shadow rests on the once bright and
happy home, where her presence was
joy and sunshine, we feel that she
sheds a glorified radiance in the home
in which her spirit now dwells, joyful
ly awaiting the coming of the loved
ones w’lio so tenderly loved and cared
for her. Sleeping in her beautiful cas
ket, she was carried to Bethesda, where
her body was laid away till the glad
morn of the resurrection.
This lovely bud so young and fair
Called hence by early doom—
Callod to show how sweet a flower
In paradise would bloom.
Xre sin eould harm or sorrow fade,
Death came with friendly care.
The opening bud to heaven conveyed
And bade it blossom thare.
The parting was not forever,
She has only gone on before,
And will be eagerly watching
To welcome us at the door.
Jesus is calling his children
One by one to come home;
And now that he has called Lora,
’Tis not that we should mourn.
The angels have gathered around
To welcome her at the door.
And surely heaven Is brighter
As she’s reached the golden shore.
Call not back the dear departed,
Anchored safe where storms are o’er.
On the border land we left her.

The Irl R. Hick 3 1901 Almanac.
Whatever may be said of the
scientific causes upon which the
Rev. Irl R. Hickß bases his yearly
forecasts of storm and weather, it
is a remarkable fact that specific
warnings of every great storm,
flood, cold wave and drouth, have
been plainly printed in his now
famous almanac for many years.
The latest startling proof of this
fact was the destruction of Gal
veston, Texas, on the very day
named by Prof. H : cks in his
1900 almanc, one of disaster by
storm along the gulf coasts. The
1901 almanac, by far the finest,
most complete and beautiful yet
published, is now ready. This re
markable book of nearly 200
pages, splendidly illustrated with
charts and half-tone engrav
ings, goe ias a premium to every
subscriber who pays one dollar a
year for Prof. Hicks journal,

alone is sent prepaid for only 25c.
