After ju'eachiug we were soon at
the prettv home of Mr. Lucius
Paulk, one of Irwin's staunch, re-
liable citizens and good farmers,
and it was only a few minutes until
dinner was announced. We can't
name each well-prepared dish oil the
table, or describe fully the happy
half hour spent there, but you may
take it for granted that the chicken-
pie was first-class, the baked pork
just right, and the pies and custards
and all the rest fully up to the
standard of good cooking. It was
one of those satisfying dinners—
Hie kind that is calculated to make
a man wish he was proprietor of
two full-sized appetites.
Mr. Paulk has a pretty home and
farm, and knows how to make the
former pleasant and the latter profit¬
able.
The drouth hurt bis crops, but he
made plenty to do him, and his cot-
ton crop was nearly au average one;
and as he did not pay out a cent for
extra labor this year, it is safe to
assume his ledger shows up well.
