the suicide of Mon. Goodge, at
Screven. Ilis body was found on
the porch with the top of his head
blown off. Mrs. Goodge was in
Savannah when she received a let-
ter as follows: “Mrs. Virgie
Goodge.—I am dead. Raise tlie
baby right. When you get this let¬
ter I will he dead.” Three hours
later she received a telegram an¬
nouncing his death. — Waycross

Speaking of collards, Mrs. J. B.
Gunn, of Enigma, sends the Gazette
the biggest one of this or any other
season. It is a magnificent specimen
of that useful garden flower, and is,
as cut down, five and a half feet
high, just reaching the editor’s nose,
with a spread of leaves of five feet.

Joe Hall, who killed Marth Dlx
on September 17, 1898, in Macon
county, was found guilty and sen¬
tenced to be hanged on December
21, 1899. Robert Knowlton, who
killed Green Bryant September 3,
1899, in the same county, was found
guilty with recommendation. He
was sent to the penitentiary for life.

A Female Tramp.
Sunday morning a woman with
four small children ranging from

goes by the name of Bowen, and is
a professional tramp, For several
yerrs she has been visiting the towns

same story of desertion, and always
finds people who contribute to her
through sympathy for the dirty and
thinly clad tots she pulls around
with her. She was in Dawson about
a year ago and related the same sad
story of desertion and a desire to
