The Trial of Flanegan.
The trial of Flanagan, the De
Kalb county double murderer,
is in progress at Decatur and it
is creating more excitement
than any other case ever tried
in that county.
The details of his horrible
crime are known to the people
beyond even the limits of the
State, and the 'trial is being
watched with interest.
Col. W. C. Glenn, the defend¬
ant’s leading attorney, is mak¬
ing a strong fight for his client
on the plea of iusinity and how¬
ever much the fellow deserves
to be hung it is safe to predict
that he has a good long lease of
life yet.
An effort on the part of an
unknown mob to take the pris¬
oner from Sheriff 11. 0. Austin
was overcome by that brave
officer, and since that incident
the military has been doing du¬
ty at the court house in Decatur
Judge Candler has done all
in his power to give ttie pris¬
oner a fair trial, but unless the
verdict, to be, is favorable to
the heartless wretch the grounds
upon which a new trial can be
demanded are many and will be
ably presented to the court.
It may bo a long time off,
but Flauagan will one Jay dan¬
gle from the end of a rope to
pay the penalty of his crime.
No citizen that is posted a
little bit will criticise Ordinary
Helms for his acts in connec¬
tion with the building of a new
jail. He is following the law in
this matter and no blame can
possibly attach to him. There
is no good cause for a kick any¬
way. The county must build a
jail sooner or later and this is
the lowest priced period, for ev¬
ery commodity, that we have
memory of. There will be no
extra cost in building it now,

The -sensationalism of the

so much due to the natural bent
of the publications as to the
prominence of the individuals

We are glad to announce that
he is not a native Georgian.

it is said that sufficient evidence
of his guilt will bo produced to
