Brothers’ Steamship Company, of this
city.
It is said the loan has been refused.

leave of absence to go Into the life In
surance field at Cincinnati. Mr. Wil
liams was recently elected second vice
president of the Union Central Life
Insurance Company of Cincinnati, and
he will take up the active duties of
this office. For some years he has
been a director In the company, sue
ceding his father, Dr. W. (». Williams,
of the Ohio Wesleyan University.
Inspector W. R. ,Key* will he placed
temporarily In charge of the office here
Mr. Williams will leave Thursday for
’Indnnatl. He Is a brother-in-law
he late Governor John M. Pattlson.

ENGINES SMASHED
IN SLIGHT ACCIDENT
Three engine" were elightly dam
aged a* the' result of an accident Mon*
day night shortly after 9 o’clock on
(he Western and Atlantic railroad at
the Simpson street crossing.
An outgoing passenger train, bound
for Chattanooga nnd Nashville, alde-
hwiped a yard engine, which was stand
ing on a siding, and the force of the
concussion caused thia engine to be
jammed hack 'nto another locomotive.
No one was Injured.
Owing to the damage, to the passen
ger engine, anther one had to be sub-

delayed only a short time.

among railroad people. .He had been
with the Southern a number of years,
having been superintendent of the OM
Virginia Midland before this road waa
absorbed by the Southern.
