Cherokee Life Insurance Com
pany Now Has Outstanding
Policies of $15,000,000.
ROME. GA.. June 28.—Two old line
industrial life companies in Rome
the Rome Life and the Cherokee Life
have just consolidated their business, |
which will be conducted in the future
by the Cherokee Life Insurance Com
pany. This Is the largest merger of In
surance interests ever effected in the
South, the combined business repre
senting the establishment of the first
life company writing an Industrial busi
ness of large proportions south of Vir

Officials of the Cherokee Life say
the company now has outstanding
about sls.no.non of insuran'e. repre
senting a merger of s'>.non non of In
surance of the Rome Life and about
Jgnnn.nnn of insurance of the Cherokee
Life The combined industrial debits,
according to the officers, give to the
Cherokee Life an annual premium In
come of li.V'.nnn. and its net surplus
to policyholders, by a consolidation of
the assets of the two companies, now
amounts to more than s".nn,nnn
Rth companies recently- created ordi
nary life departments and the ordinary
as well as the industrial business is
brought together. The Cherokee Life
will continue tn operate both ordinary
and industrial departments, seeking to
reduce the relative fixed charges of the
business by selling both lines of life
insurance under the one adminfstra-<
tlon.
Merger Urged by Expert.
The absorption of the Rome Life by
the Cherogee Life was effected after a
thorough investigation by and on the
recommendation of Miles M Dawson,
consulting actuary of New York, who
was retained by both companies to
bring about a merger of interests in
an equitable manner. On the opinion
of .Mr. Dawson as well ns on the opin
ion of the managers of both companies,
the combination of Interests will make
for greater and more rapid profit for
all Interests by lhe elimination of com
petition between these two larger in
dustrial companies and by drastic eeo. ,
nomics effected by administering the I
larger volume of business at substan- j

35 DAMAGE CLAIMS
FROM DALTON WRECK
CALHoVK, Gzi.. .rune 28.—The West
ern and Atlantic Railroad company has
settled .15 claims growing out of the re
cent wreck of the Calhoun picnic train
near Dalton. All of these claims are for
small amounts, ranging from $25 to S6OO
The larger claims can not be settled,
owing to the doubtful and convalescent
state nf the injured.
The local bar resents the action of sev
eral lawyers from other places who have
come here and endeavored to persuade
people to file suits against the railroad
company for damages. The Calhoun News
has published an article denouncing the
outsiders and charging that their efforts
are "In violation of section 33 of the
criminal code, and against the ethics of
the profession."

Do Not Forget to Come in
the Morning for These
New Neck Fixings
Store Closes at 1 o’Clock Tomorrow
There is a freshness and smartness about this
stock of neck fixings that, did women know now
what their eyes will quickly show them, we would
certainly monopolize the neckwear business of
Atlanta tomorrow. And the store closes tomor
row at I o’clock,so whether or not you do all your
shopping before that hour, by all means see these.
Collar and Cuff Sets, the daintiest of which
seem to be of chiffon cloth, marquisette and or
gandy with ruffled edges; in black and white,
both equally good for mourning purposes. The
white, however, has a more general use than
mourning. They are 50c to $3.50.
Then there are the Venise Collars and Collar
and Cuff Sets in white and ecru. These show the
tendency toward heavy laces. They are very smart
for linen dresses and suits. The variety is as broad
as good style—showing the square, round and the
pointed Quaker collars, priced from 50c to $3.50,
and the sets priced from $1.50 to $5.00.
Fichus in the quaint style of other years.
The soft touch they lend to one’s appearance rec
ommends them to present-day fashions. We have
gathered a splendid stock of these in nets, net-and
lace combinations—those with shadow laces are ’
beautiful—in white, ecru and black. Prices from
50c to $3.50.
Irish Crochet Bows with loops of colored
velvet. They add the touch of color that so many
women want for their white dresses. These are

New Rufflings are constantly coming in
and going out here, because we manager to always
show the novelties. Right now there are some at
tractive net rufflings here trimmed with laces.
They are 25c to SI.OO a yard.
