White, of Los Angeles, county, Cali
fornio, Is, here for Antonio Besold, who
was arrested lost Thursday, charged
with murdering hts wife, Julia.
On the morning of July II, It la al
leged, Beeold and wife left Los Angeles,
presumably for Hhnta Monica, for a
day's outing. When Besold returned
to his boarding house he said his wife
had gone on a vlalt - to Mexico and
would probably be absent for several
months.
When arrested In this city Besold

Strickland, a homeless lad. who made
his way Into Macon a few days ago.

After reading of the brave struggle
for bread made by the little fellow
after his kinsfolk had died one by
one, Hon. James E. Brown, former
state librarian of Newnan, wrote to
Mayor Smith offering the lad a home,
and this offer will be communicated to
the home officials today.
TOWNS DESTROYED
BY BIG TYPHOON
Manila, Sept. 27.,—Three towns were
totally destroyed and four other towns
damaged by a typhoon that swept over
Cagayan valley, in the northern part
of the Island of Luson. The loss ol
life was slight.
It Is announred here that 10,000 lives
were lost and >2,000,000 damage caused
by the typhoon ut Hongkong on Sep
tember IS.

RELEASE NEGROES WHO
ARE NOT IDENTIFIED
Now that the trouble Is over and
the expense'of things Is again cutting
a -figure, the county authorities are
going through the carloads of negroes
who were brought to the Tower from
Brownsville and' other places and are
releasing those whom they can not
positively convict of participating In
tho disorders or whu can not be held on
a vagrancy charge.
li'J. Price, the negro postmaster at
Brownsville,, has been staying at the
Jail of his own volition. He was'being
held on the charge of dealing out arms
and ammunition to. the negroes of that
suburb, but shortly after.his arrest the
county police searched his premises and
found nothing which would wnrrant
this charge being formally registered
against him. He preferred the Jail, as
a safer place than home, however.

ing of the Habersham County Fair
Monday morning was a booming suc
cess. The opening address was deliv
ered by Colonel 1. C. Wade. In the
morning an elocution contest was made
between the representatives of the dif
ferent towns of the county. Miss Eva
Burns, of Cornelia, Oa., was the suc
cessful contestant, and carried off the
medal.
In the afternoon LeRoy Suddeth. of
Cornelia High School, won the medal
In the oratorical contest.
In the physical culture conteet Miss

On Tuesday morning a very Interest
